My biggest concern is the lack of long term volunteering I have on my application. I chose to switch to apply to MD/DO in 03/2024 and have been trying to catch up with my hours and application. Most of my volunteering will been done between 01/2025 - present. I also dont have any strong leadership positions but definitely had to lead multiple things within different positions.

I feel very strongly about healthcare being a team effort, especially treating the patient as a whole and having them understand their illness and having them as a part of the healthcare team as well. Giving patients the information to make their informed decisions is very important to me and what I plan to write my PS about.

Schools I am considering:
FL MD and DO Schools
Oakland, VCU, Colorado, Tufts, UPitt, Hackensack, SUNY Upstate, Toledo, Temple, Drexel, Western Michigan, UVermont, GW, Quinnipiac, WakeForest, Albany, MC of Wisconsin

DO:
UNECOM, TouroCOM, PCOM, Rowan COM, Rocky Vista, PNWU, LECOM, CCOM, Campbell

Any advice on schools or improving my application is very appreciated.

Remote scribing and online shadowing has minimal value. You should accumulate another 30+ hours of non clinical volunteering before you submit your application since some schools screen at 150 hours. I suggest these MD schools with your stats:
U Florida
Florida State
Central Florida
Florida Atlantic
Florida International
USF Morsani
Miami
NOVA MD
Wake Forest
Virginia Commonwealth
Eastern Virginia
George Washington
Georgetown
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
Pittsburgh
Hackensack
New York Medical College
Albany
Vermont
Quinnipiac
UMass
Tufts
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Medical College Wisconsin
Rosalind Franklin
St. Louis
TCU
Belmont
Alice Walton
Roseman
Colorado

Welcome to the forums.

Please point out what you mean by this statement.

You need at least another 75 hours with Habitat or find 75 hours in food distribution, shelter volunteering, job/tax preparation, legal support, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation before you apply or risk getting screened out at most schools.

Your minor is interesting. Do you have any intentions of getting experience in international development/humanitarian assistance?

All of the volunteering hours that I have are from the last 3 months. I don't have any longterm volunteering positions and I am concerned that will hurt my application, even if I accumulate 150 hours at habitat. I would love to get into global health initiatives but have not had any opportunities to do something like that.

Does the timeframe matter significantly? I'm genuinely curious because I'm applying this cycle and just like like you will have all nonclinical hours logged from 01/2025-present. Example: 200 hours logged in short time frame such as ourselves vs. 100 hours but long term; which looks better?

From what I've gathered on these forums is that short term or longterm both works if you can draw something meaningful from the experience, its significant, and write about it well. Longterm might be favored because it shows long term commitment to something, potential for growth into leadership positions, establishing better connections with the people you volunteer with etc. But I would love to hear your thoughts about this

I understand. Meaningfulness speaks volume, especially when one can talk about it in writing, interviews, etc. In my situation, my reason for my nonclinical volunteering being "short-term" is mostly due to my desire to find that same meaningfulness and learning experience in my clinical and shadowing experiences. Now that I have experienced and still have weekly clinical experience, I can now effectively put forth extra time into nonclinical activities. Good Luck on your applications!
