I will be graduating after 5 years. I transferred colleges after my third year to another 4 year university. I have will have completed a total of 180 credits, and will be graduating with a Biology major, Chemistry Minor, and history Minor.

I just want to know my chances for D.O. school.
I did a total of about 8-10 retakes. I have had 5 Withdrawals during my 3rd and 4th year but they are spread out. I have had a 3 incompletes but completed those classes with a B and above. I had 2 Fs but both in my first year.

I have a very good upward trajectory from mid sophomore year up until my 5th year. I will be graduating in 5 years and will be applying after I graduate so I will be taking a year off while applying. Hopefully will be in medical school by the age of 24.

Here are my stats and EC's.

CGPA: 3.65
SGPA: 3.68

MCAT: 510

Volunteering:
-1000 hours/ 3 years in the ER alone
A few hundred hours of:
-Volunteering at different hospitals
-Boy Scouts as well as toy drives and good drives
-Red Cross
-Provided help and relief to refugees and people in need in my country of Palestine.
-50 hours in Costa Rica providing limited medical care to residents while I was studying abroad over the winter whole taking a Tropical Marine Biology course.

Shadowing: 50 hours D.O. ER doctor.

Research:
-1000 hours/ 3 years of research in the ED performing studies and a ton of patient interaction.
-150 hours of school related research on Animal Behavior.

Have been apart of many clubs:
-AMSA
-National society of leadership and success member
-Biology club
-MSA
-Coached the basketball intramural at my school)

I have the following committee letters:
-Letter of rec from my research director
-D.O. ER doctor I shadowed
-Volunteer director
-Professor who I did research with
-Boy Scout scout master
-Letter of rec from the residency coordinator for all emergency department and surgery residents.

I am Palestinian so I don't know if that counts as a minority and I am a second generation and will be the first in both my mom and dads families graduating college let alone go to medical school. I am a NYS resident. A little about my self, been in boy scouts since I was 7 when I was just a Cub Scout to 18 when I became an Eagle Scout, black belt in tae Kwon do.

Did you have an upward grade trend? If so, you should be OK for any DO school, starting with NYITCOM, Touro-NY and PCOM. Palestinians are not considered minorities.

Yes I had a strong upward trend since my mid sophomore year. Been averaging a 3.5 and above and thank you for your answer I appreciate it.

I'll play bad cop lol, not bc I enjoy it, bc you'll be asked about it
5 w in 3 and 4th yr- what classes and what happened? Ie did you retake any?
3 Incompletes? When were those, what classes, and what happened?
2 Fs- what classes, did you retake?

And for the record, I agree with Goro, your GPAs are great and you have a great shot!

2 Fs in Gen Chem 1 twice in a row. I wasn't a stellar student during my first year and a half and admit to that.

5 W's, the first one was the spring semester of my sophomore year in physics 1 but completed it with a B+ during the fall of my junior. The second and third were in the spring semester of my junior year in anatomy and organic chemistry 1 but that was only because I transferred schools and the school I was transferring to didn't accept these two classes. Never retook the human anatomy course that I withdrew from but just took comparative anatomy and got a B+. My fourth and fifth was in my fourth year (fall semester) and they were organic Chem 1 and cell biology and that was my fault I overloaded myself with credits that semester, ended up retaking those two and got an A.

The first incomplete was in my sophomore year (spring semester) and was in Gen Chem 1 when I finally passed it. Got an incomplete because my professor lost my final and he found it a couple weeks after the semester ended, ended up with a B. Second incomplete was in genetics during my fourth year in the fall and completed it with an A. The last one was for my physics 1 course during my the fall semester of my junior year but completed it the semester after with a B+.

I know that this all is probably going to be very negative on my application but I have tried so hard to build my self and retake any classes that I struggled with or didn't initially do well in and have tried so hard to raise my GPA to where it is so I can be "competitive". I now only have 2 C's on my transcript (C and a C+) both in non science classes and the rest of my grades are A's and B's. I really want to go to medical school, in the beginning during my freshman year and half of my sophomore year it was hard for my because of lack of passion and motivation but I suddenly remembered that I always wanted to be a doctor and I began working really hard and rebuilding my self from terrible lows (GPA wise) and retook any classes I could that I didn't do so great in and built my GPA. I just hope through all this history with my grades that's enough.

Thanks for asking and playing bad cop I want to know my realistic chances with all my flaws on the table, I appreciate that.

No problem! Just making sure you were ready for the answers! That's great you retook everything in a timely manner, I definitely think that will go over well with the adcoms, as well as your current GPAS...good job!
