Have you reached out to the usual medical schools that have partnerships with their university engineering programs?

Pretty interesting article!

Could I ask what you mean specifically by a 'partnership with an engineering program'? To my understanding most medical schools are jointly affiliated with other schools in their university system (such as engineering) through their technology/venture offices, and the only school I know of that has an explicit engineering-based mission is Carle.

But to answer your question, not yet as I was planning on applying next cycle. I do plan on reaching out to some of my old clients who are still affiliated with their school of medicine and engineering however to ask about any programs that might be a good fit for my goals.

I think Carle and Texas A&M EnMed explicitly look for engineers, but you should check. EnMed issues a masters in engineering on top of your MD. Yes, the other programs will have cross-appointed faculty (too).

P.S. Harvard-MIT is the partnership that i was thinking of, plus the other programs.

You should accumulate 50 hours of in person physician shadowing (including primary care) as well as 100+ more hours at hospice. 150+ hours of non clinical volunteering (food bank, homeless shelter, etc.) would also help. I suggest these schools with your stats:
Carle Illinois (you fit their profile)
Western Michigan
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
Michigan State
Central Michigan
U Michigan
Toledo
Medical College Wisconsin
Rosalind Franklin
Indiana
Iowa
Creighton
TCU
Alice Walton
Roseman
Belmont
Tulane
USF Morsani
NOVA MD
Wake Forest
Eastern Virginia
Virginia Commonwealth
Penn State
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Hackensack
Hofstra
New York Medical College
Albany
Vermont
Quinnipiac
UMass

Thanks for the list!

Any thoughts from @Goro ? Thanks for your help a while back on the reinvention thread by the way.

Any awards or leadership roles as a student athlete? Many med schools really value student-athletes.

Just make sure you get some community service orientation experience: food distribution, shelter volunteer, job and tax preparation, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation. It depends what you are doing with the addiction rehabilitation center.

Great job of reinvention! I don't think you need a special Masters program, but can apply as is. Whoever you will need to apply to do schools. Beggars can't be choosy.
Thanks for the feedback! Just to clarify, when you say ‘can apply as is’, you mean the app would be sufficient to apply NEXT cycle right? (I’m assuming not this cycle since I haven’t shadowed anyone yet)

I was what you’d call a residential assistant and I had direct contact with patients. Job description was pretty similar to this one (pulled off the internet). https://themountaincenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/RTA-Job-Description-22-2.pdf

Do you think this’d still be clinical experience?
