First-time applicant for the 2021-2022 cycle and I have some questions regarding my application and school list!

  • ORM (Asian) California Resident
  • FAP Recipient
  • Graduated in 2020, Currently in my gap year
  • Major: Pharmaceutical Sciences at a UC
  • Minor: Medical Anthropology
  • GPA: cGPA 3.62, AMCAS sGPA: 3.44, AACOMAS sGPA: 3.56
    • (For AACOMAS, my pharmacy classes were counted as science, whereas for AMCAS they are not)
    • My question is that should I count my upper-div pharm classes like Medicinal Chemistry/Lab, Human Physiology/Lab, Biopharm and Nanomed/Lab, and Physical Biochemistry as science classes even though they are labeled as PhrmSci?
  • MCAT: 512 (128/129/128/129)
  • Clinical Volunteering: 500 hrs at an Oncology clinic, 150 hrs at an urgent care
  • Clinical Work Experience: 800 hrs at an urgent care, most likely 1000 hrs by application submission
  • Research Experience: Around 125 hrs, estimate 200 by application submission (no pub/poster)
    • Lab focused on gastroenterology, currently working on a project regarding polyp diagnosis and labeling polyp shapes (dry lab and online).
  • Shadowing Experience: I don't have any official shadowing experience but when I volunteered at the Oncology clinic, I sometimes saw patients with the doctor. At the urgent care that I currently work at, I help translate for patients when the doctors see patients if there's a language issue. Should I subtract some hours from both to add to this category?
  • Non-clinical Work Experience: TA-ed an introductory Statistics class for an academic year. Around 210 hours.
  • Non-clinical Volunteering: Basically none. Did some light volunteering in undergrad but was not meaningful/long term. A weak part of my application.
  • Letters of Recs: 2 Pharm Sci faculty that taught me (won't be too personal, speaking about my academics), 3 MD (1 Oncology, 1 Clinical Professor research PI, 1 Work Urgent Care), 1 DO (Work Urgent Care)
    • Is it ok to have two letters from one workplace (Urgent Care)?
My MD School List (30):

Rowan, Virginia Tech, Utah, South Carolina, Toledo, Wright State accept few applicants with your stats and no connection to the state or region. You could add these schools:
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Seton Hall
Penn State
George Washington
NOVA MD
TCU-UNT
Creighton
Loyola
Medical College Wisconsin

Thanks for the advice!
I got most of my school list from looking at MSAR's matriculation data and looking over the school's website/mission statement/class profile to screen out any that look to mainly serve "xxx" area (UCR). Is there a way to check if a school hard requires a connection to the state/region otherwise your app is DOA?

MSAR does not reveal the numbers from each state in a school's class, only the total number from OOS. For Example, half of Toledo's non residents in some recent years have been from Michigan.
