Hi all.
Going into senior year this fall with a Major in PV, minor in Microbiology. Current GPA 3.9, and feel confident that will remain.
Tons of hours and extra curriculars (will post full stats later).
Just took the GRE and came in a hair under average.

With many schools not requiring GRE (but of course my stretch UCD does) - how important is it to be in the above average GRE pool to not get tossed?

Am thinking of taking it again, but would like to hear from others what their experience was while applying with a GRE that wasn't stellar.

Thank you!

Hey so I applied and got into Davis with a GRE quant which was like wayyyy below their average but my GPAs were decently above the in state average and it looks like your is. I got accepted after being on the waitlist but my waitlist position wasn’t determined from my stats just the interview so I’m sure you will at least get an interview offer if your quant is just barely below average. however, with that being said if you feel that you can do better with taking it again I say you should do it because why hurt your application if you have the chance to improve it.

Also I suspect that there will be a lot of GPA inflation this application cycle due to online classes so if you can strengthen your application in other ways I would recommend you do that.

I got a 305 total - 150 quant and 155 verbal. I’m not sure what normal average is, but I know UCD is way higher! I think that was around 38 and 69th percentile. I have 2,000 hours of varied experience in all types of vet med and various leadership positions and research, so without the gre im a good candidate. I’m just not sure how a 305 stands at all! Unsure I should even apply or if I should have a sliver of hope. I’m also OOS, were you IS?

Ooof ya being out of state changes things I was in state so the stats are much lower to be considered for an interview. I don’t know what all your GPA looks like but unless it’s all on average with OOS acceptance than it might not be worth it unless you just want to give it a shot? Honestly I have been surprised with just how high the out of state statistics are. Also UC Davis does not look at anything else other than your quant for the GRE and the only way you get the other stuff on your application looked at is if you fall under wholistic review. Davis is very numbers based unfortunately. They have a really informative video on their admissions information website that breaks down what they look for REALLY well.

I got in Davis this year with a low 3.9s GPA, I'm pretty sure my GPA is on the very low tier among all the OOS admitted. But my GRE quant was 85%. If you want to apply for Davis I'd definitely recommend retaking the GRE, and remember that they don't look at verbal or writing section AT ALL. Just the quant, which should be pretty easy to booster.

Other schools that don't require GRE don't look at GRE for their admission decisions. Don't worry if the score is with VMCAS, if the school specifically states that GRE is not required, it's not going to hurt your chances.
