Date of submission: September 2, 2020

Bio-Chem-Physics GPA:
3.41
DAT score (include AA and all sections):

AA: 23
PAT: 24
GC: 28
OC: 21
BIO: 18
TS: 20
QR: 22
RC: 24

State of Residence: Maryland

Undergrad Attended: U.S. Military Academy (West Point)
Major: Engineering Management
Minor: General Engineering
Minority? No
Reapplicant? No
Nontrad? Yes. Graduated in 2013 from West Point and spent five years in the army as a field artillery officer, reaching rank of Captain. Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division with a nine month deployment to Iraq as well. Got out of army in 2018 and have been completing the pre-reqs at the local community college while working as an oral surgery assistant. Have earned straight A's in the pre-reqs with a 4.0 GPA over the course of 38.0 credit hours, while taking the courses at CC. *Substantial upward trend in my grades/GPA*

Shadowing Experience: 70 hours with a Periodontist/Prosthodontist & 42 hours with a General Dentist
Volunteering Experience: 56 hours as a little league baseball coach this summer (quite different than what I was expecting!)
Employment: 2160 hours as an oral surgery assistant. Assisted on every single surgery in the office from March to June during the height of COVID-19, as other assistant was not comfortable working in operatory (typically we alternate surgeries).
Research: 360+ hours of research for undergraduate thesis. Researched limits to population growth in Nile River Basin.
Other Extracurriculars: Held various leadership positions in the military.
Relevant Honors or Awards: Dean's List while at community college and also nominated/selected by the faculty as best chemistry student in the college.
LOR type and strength: 1:Gen Chem instructor (Strong), 2: Orgo I Instructor (Very Strong), 3: Orgo II Instructor (Very Strong), 4: Periodontist/Prosthodontist (Very Strong). *All instructors are from community college, not West Point*.

School list:

UMD
Temple
UIC
Ohio State
Pacific
UNC-Chapel Hill
VCU
LECOM
NSU
Case Western
UCSF
UCONN
Pitt
Oklahoma

My three biggest concerns are as follows:

1. Low GPA
2. Late application submission
3. Community College Pre-reqs

I can handle criticism quite well, so please feel free to rip me apart.

The late submission with low undergrad GPA is going to work against you, but you can't be too pessimistic. You probably should research which schools really place a value on veterans/military applicants and make sure they know you are in the pool. Comm college prereqs won't be a huge issue as long as you have some upper-level courses from a four-year program.

Hey!

I'm happy to see you have a nice DAT score. Some other safety schools if you're open to them may be: University of New England and California Northstate.

Good Luck! 🙂
