Hello everyone! I applied for this cycle and am just wondering if I have a real shot at hearing from the schools I applied to or not.

  • State/Country of Residence: Texas
  • Ties to other States/Regions: Family in Colorado
  • Year in School: Graduated Fall 2019
  • Undergraduate Major(s)/Minor(s): Major is Kinesiology for athletic medicine, minor biology
  • Graduate Degrees (if applicable): N/A
  • Cumulative GPA: 3.3. 2.0 freshman year, 3.0 sophomore year, 3.7 junior year, 3.9 senior year (to show trend)
    • Senior year includes 50 credit hours because I took several additional classes I had an interest in
  • Science GPA: 3.49
  • MCAT Score(s): 508 (2017), 513 (2020) (127, 129, 128, 128)
  • Research Experience: Worked at MD Anderson as a research assistant over the summers in 2016 and 2017 with 2 publications (See below), and 300 hours of research for an internship in kinesiology
  • Publications/Abstracts/Posters (include how you were credited e.g. First author, second author, etc.): I have 2 publications but know little about them. The physicians I was working for listed me as an author to be kind and help me out.
  • Clinical Experience (paid or volunteer): ~2000 hours as a WellMed scribe in an underserved area, ~300 hours of orthopedic scribing.
  • Physician Shadowing: 150 hours across two specialties
  • Non-Clinical Volunteering: 100 hours, helping to set up a fundraiser for veterans
  • Other Extracurricular Activities: Wrestling, quidditch, gym rat
  • Other Employment History: 7 years as a server, 1 year at HEB grocery store, 1 year as organic II TA, 2 years as school sponsored tutor for organic I and II (A supplemental instructor for anybody who had those at their school)
  • Immediate family members in medicine? (Y/N): Father (Neuroradiology) /Step-mother (Interventional radiology)
  • Specialty of Interest (if applicable): Kind of orthopedic surgery but am open to anything
  • Interest in Primary Care (Y/N): No strong preference
  • Interest in Rural Health (Y/N): No strong preference
  • Medical School List: MD: All TMDSAS (since I'm a Texas resident), Uniformed Services University and, Colorado

I am a 29 year old white male, non-traditional applicant. For financial reasons it took me 7 years to graduate from college but I was able to reapply to a few key medical schools this year. I had an acceptance from RVUCOM-CO coming into the cycle this year because I did not get off the APS list last year so that is the only reason my school list is so small and that I did not apply to any DO schools. I was curious if y'all thought I had a chance of hearing back from the schools I listed. The only caveat is that I ran into numerous scheduling conflicts and was only able to take the CASPER one week ago. So while my Texas schools and Denver have been submitted since mid July-early August they are not technically complete until those scores get released. USUHS was complete July 12th and is arguably my top pick, it's just playing the waiting game is so hard. Do you think I have a decent chance of hearing from them or any of the other schools listed? (I know Long school of medicine is not going to happen unless the stars align perfectly somehow and I only applied to Baylor because my father went there and currently works for them so I am hopeful they may recognize the name)

You should apply to DO schools with your GPAs. The GPA-MCAT grid shows you have a ~50% chance for a MD acceptance.
I suggest these DO schools:
TCOM
SAM HOUSTON STATE
UIWSOM
OSU-COM
CUSOM
KCU-COM
ATSU-KCOM
DMU-COM
AZCOM
TUNCOM
Touro-NY
MU-COM
PCOM
