Which schools have you applied to ?
UVM
Dartmouth
Vanderbilt
Yale
UCSF
Stanford
Rochester

Sending more applications soon before Labor Day. I know it’s top heavy, but I’m a better fit at research heavy schools, and while I’m applying MD I plan on being involved in research in the future.

Your chances for interviews will be limited due to your low shadowing hours (only 10 when at least 40 is expected) and your low clinical volunteering hours (150 hours is at the cutoff for screening but it is 7 years ago with nothing since then ?) Vermont is your best chance since you are a Vermont resident. I suggest adding these schools in the coming week:
Washington University (in St. Louis-they like high stat applicants)
Tufts
UMass
Albany
Hofstra
New York Medical College
Mount Sinai
Pittsburgh
Jefferson
Temple
George Washington
U Virginia
USF Morsani
Miami
TCU
Western Michigan
U Michigan
Cincinnati
Iowa
U Illinois
Kaiser

What do your prehealth advisors

I appreciate these suggestions, and definitely expected that feedback as well, so thank you.

I want to do pretty specific things in medicine, which is a mixture of research and patient care in psychiatry. My range of experiences and skills set me up very well for this- not so much for run of the mill medicine. So I think I need to find the schools where the mission fit is very aligned. Otherwise I’m just another applicant with less clinical experience, and that neither plays to my strengths or sets me up for a situation that is right for me and where I can thrive.

I’m conflicted, because some people (like my advisor, a psychiatry prof, and some other physicians) think I would be an exceptional applicant, but others (my prehealth advisors who I didn’t talk to as much as I should have and don’t know my story) are skeptical.
