Volunteering Experience: ~90 hours of volunteering at nursing home, 100 hours at food bank, 150 hours at service-oriented clubs on campus, 30 hours at hospital

Employment: Worked at Walmart, Parent's Nail Salon, and had 1 on campus job throughout undergrad. Recently started as a dental assistant

  • Toured Midwestern AZ
Relevant Honors or Awards: Dean's List, Pell Grant, and Obama Scholarship

LOR type and strength: 2 Science LOR (Strong), 1 Lab Coordinator (Very Strong), Dentist (Very Strong)

Misc Info/Things not stated elsewhere/Red Flags: I will be reapplying if I don't end up getting off the waitlist for last cycle. This is also my third time taking the DAT. Had 5 Interviews last cycle that I am still waitslited on.

Thank you! I did more content review this time around instead of rushing to take the practice tests.

I applied to the same schools, except I applied to Tufts, NOVA, Indiana, UNE, and Midwestern IL instead of UWash, Rutgers, UOP, Creighton, and Roseman the first time around.
I recieved interviews at ASDOH, Midwestern AZ, LECOM, NOVA, and Tufts last cycle.

This will be my 2nd cycle. My first cycle was last cycle where I had 5 interviews. Both of my first 2 DAT attempts were before I applied last year.

LECOM because I have family near there and their tuition is cheap compared to other privates. Maryland and Rutgers are pretty OOS friendly and offer instate after 1 year. I heard Touro and Temple are also pretty OOS friendly and clinically good. I also align well with their stats.

you get invites and acceptances from mission fit
"family near there" "tuition is cheap" "pretty oos friendly" and "align well with their stats" is not mission fit

how come all mountain schools except for utah?

why isn't nova on the list?

why isn't nova on the list?
I originally didn’t add Utah, because I didn’t wanna add schools that required Casper, but I realized Temple requires it too, so I’ll probably swap it out. For NOVA, I heard somewhere that they reserved half their class for students who did a post-bacc at their schools and did well. I also feel like they interview a lot of students, so I felt like my chances there, even after an interview aren’t the highest.

why not do casper?

how many schools are you willing to apply to?

I just feel like its an extra cost to apply to schools that aren't my top choices and do not offer instate tuition after 1 year, so that money that I used for Casper could be spent applying to an additional school. I am planning to apply to 12-15 schools.

your chances at utah are way higher than at rutgers and buffalo
and even temple is more likely than rutgers or buffalo
schools that offer instate after 1 year are more competitive for that fact...

Yes, your DAT should help you. Your five interviews from last cycle came with only your first two DATs (before your 23AA)?

I only have issues with OHSU because I don't think they are OOS friendly, but I think the rest of the list is fine. Work on your interviewing... with so many interviews from last cycle, you must show you are better prepared to lock the A.

Not taking Casper (having a score) makes it hard for me to determine if you would have trouble with MMI interviews; do you feel you had difficulties with it?

shoot, sorry
i meant rutgers and maryland, not rutgers and buffalo

i'd recommend removing maryland and touro because your app is pretty strong now that your dat scores are really high, but if it makes you feel better to have a larger list, that's totally understandable
8-10 schools would not be inappropriate for you

have you given any thought to doing a dat breakdown to help out others?
your improvement is remarkable...

Hi, yes my 5 interviews from last cycle came from my 2 20 AA scores. I think I did well for MMIs at ASDOH at least, but I think it was my perosonal interview that held me back. I will also practice a lot more for interviews this cycle to try to lock in that A. I have also just signed up for Casper because I realized I do want to apply to Utah.

Thank you again. I would be willing to make a DAT breakdown sometime this week.

you really only have one reach school (UOP since they are so selective, not because of your stats)
so your list could be shorter, but being a reapplicant, you need to ensure you get in this cycle
i appreciate you recognizing that your interviews are an issue, prepare until it doesn't look awkward or scripted, then relax and be yourself...

Hi Mr.Smile,
I recently got my CASPER scores back and I honestly thought I bombed it. I initially didn’t want to take it because I thought I wouldn’t do good, but I ended up getting a 3rd quartile score. Thank you to you and “macsak” for encouraging me to take it. It’s opened up more schools for me.

Hey, I'm reviewing my dental school application from last year and noticed that my extracurricular hours seem a bit high. I've recalculated the hours, and I'm concerned about the discrepancy. Would it matter to the schools if they saw a change in the hours? I am only applying to 2-3 of the same schools. 2/3 of them said they dont compare the old application to the new one.

Thanks!

I think you answered your own question.
