I applied this cycle and had 4 interviews which have turned into 2 R's and 1 deferral. I was rejected by my in-state school, which I think was likely my best shot. Still waiting to hear back from two schools, but they historically have very long application cycles (many acceptances in may for one school, many acceptances well into july for the other), so I want to make sure I'm ready to reapply.
  1. cGPA 3.9, sGPA 3.87. Chemistry major, currently a senior in college
  2. 515 130/128/129/128
  3. from MN

  5. Private liberal arts college in MN
  6. Volunteer EMT on college campus for 3 years: ~600 hours, CNA for 1 summer (~350 hours), worked several concert venue shifts as an EMT in Minneapolis for a summer while I was doing research (probably around 30 hours in total, around 4 hours per shift)
  7. 100 hours of research in animal neurophysiology for 1 semester. since then I have been researching medical protein and DNA stability in the same lab ~900 hours over 2 school years and 1 summer (1 poster+presentation). 400 hours researching traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries @ level 1 trauma center connected to in-state medical school with their neurosurgery team (1 poster+presentation). If I must take a gap year, I have confirmation from a doc I have a pre-established relationship with that I can work with him researching robotic surgery and cancer treatment at Mayo Clinic in MN. (could be anywhere from 1000-2000 hours?). I was also told I could easily get several publications

How did you prepare for your interviews? Why did you think you got 2 rejections?
Honestly not sure why I got rejected from my in-state school. I had tons of connections to their medical school, and got very positive feedback from my interviewers after my interview, which I believe went well (they outright told me they "hoped I chose to go to x medical school"). My other interview that I was rejected after was U Iowa as an OOS student, so very competitive. Also was my first ever medical school interview so I wasn't sure what exactly to expect. I met with my college's advisors and used the SDN interview forums to prepare.
