    1. Anticipate v. strong LORs from PIs as well as a resident that I mentored. Strong narrative on teaching in medicine both residents and patients. My area of research involved talking to a lot of physicians about the profession as well as talking to patients about QoL and improving healthcare delivery, disparities research
    2. I know that community volunteering and clinical hours are quite low, but I hope to demonstrate that I have had significant exposure to medicine through my research. I have also maintained consistent focus on working with underserved youth through my PhD work, paid employment, and other activities.
    3. #1 choice by far is Michigan, but I'll also apply broadly in SE michigan. I have a family and don't intend to uproot us.
    4. I feel like a strong applicant, but I am really gunning for Michigan so looking for areas to improve by next cycle.

Fortunately, I find the UMMS team very approachable, so you should contact them and the admissions deans with your questions, especially when reviewing your prerequisites and Ph.D. transcripts. Also ask about your track record with clinical and non-clinical experience. Be clear why you want to add the M.D. at this point in your life and that you have the financial plans to make the adjustment.

You should accumulate another 30 hours of physician shadowing (including primary care) before you apply. Also another 100+ hours of non clinical volunteering since some schools screen at 150 hours. Which URM community are you from ? If you are Hispanic, are you fluent is Spanish ?

Thanks! Will try for primary care. Will try and up non-clinical, although this is challenging with work/clinical volunteering/young kids.
