Hi everyone, I am re-applying this cycle and want to make sure I have a reasonable school list. Last cycle I got 3 interviews (Pitt, GW, Cornell). I was rejected from Pitt and waitlisted at GW and Cornell. I would be super grateful for any feedback and am looking to add additional (~5ish?) schools. I highlighted the new parts of my application below.

  1. cGPA/sGPA: 3.91/3.88
  2. MCAT score: 516 (127,129,128,132) -- took 9/2022
  3. AAMC Preview 8, CASPER pending
  4. State of residence: CA
  5. Demographics: White, Female
  6. Undergraduate: UCLA, physiology major
  7. Clinical experience: 700 hrs of Physical Therapy Aide, I also have clinical aspects of my clinical research coordinator role (consent and family history)
  8. Research experience: 5290 hrs (2.5 yrs full time as clinical research coordinator), 1 co-authored pub (NEW), 10 co-authored abstracts (+5 NEW), 2 first author abstracts/poster presentations (+1 NEW), working on first author manuscript -- research is very multidisciplinary across multiple specialties (cardiology, oncology, neurology, etc)
  9. Shadowing experience: 150 (peds, pathology, cardiology (NEW))
  10. Non-clinical volunteering: 1055 (founded/led mutual aid initiative during covid, provide emotional/practical support to someone living w/ chronic illness (NEW)), this july I am leading dance classes for a women's cancer program (NEW)
  11. Other extracurricular activities: Pre-MD/pre- public health club president, math tutor, global health TA for undergrads, helped create new undergrad global health course as an undergrad
  12. Other notes: I am very interested in clinical research and am looking for schools with strong research programs without needing to go the MD/PhD route

Here is my school list (I am slightly limited due to older MCAT)

UCSD
UCI
Stanford (new)
Case Western (new)

University of Chicago Pritzker (new)

Schools I got rejected from last cycle that I cannot reapply due to MCAT date: UCSF, Northwestern, Drexel, Rosalind Franklin, Stony Brook, Michigan, USC

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

I'm guessing you didn't get any feedback about areas where your application could improve?

Is your only significant clinical exposure being a PTA? Obviously you have 150 hours of shadowing now, but could you break down the hours there and with your non-clinical volunteering?

UConn admits few non residents with no connection to the state You could add these schools:
Quinnipiac
New York Medical College
Temple
Miami
Western Michigan
Oakland Beaumont
TCU
Medical College Wisconsin
Roseman
California University
Kaiser
Arizona (Phoenix)
Colorado
Iowa
You should check with each of these schools to see if your MCAT is still valid for this cycle

Thank you for your help! I did get feedback that more service activities would strengthen my app.

I also have a lot of clinical exposure in my research coordinator role. Perhaps I can message you privately? I am hesitant to share more details publicly because it is a unique study.

Non clinical volunteering is 700 hrs mutual aid, 355 hrs providing emotional/practical support

You don't need to tell me what you did as a research coordinator; you didn't list any hours so I don't know if you just started or have been doing it for a year or more.

I also make a point that if you establish a new club, that goes under "leadership" for me (and maybe other admissions committees). Did you do any mutual aid work before you established your club? Otherwise, that puts 700 hours under leadership, and with zero hours of service orientation activities working directly with those in need for food distribution, shelter volunteer, job/tax preparation, legal support, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation, your application is at risk of getting screened out at most schools.
