SUMMARY:
I'm a little concerned with my lower amounts of clinical and non-clinical impactful volunteering hours, especially since I only recently became a scribe. I think that the stories I have behind each of the activities is pretty meaningful so I am hoping that will partially make up for the lower amounts of hours on my application.
I know my application is research heavy, but my MCAT is on the lower end for most of the T20s so I'm a little unsure how to craft my school list. To give you an idea of my narrative, I want to go into an internal medicine speciality (most likely Neuro or GI) with an emphasis on geriatric medicine since I have found my clinical work with elderly patients the most meaningful. I know how to code and have built several AI/ML projects for individuals with cognitive impairments, including a funded research project I’ll be presenting as a poster soon. A huge part of why I want to become a physician is because it allows me to integrate these projects into real-life patient care settings in order to improve outcomes and accessibility. I’m not sure if this really counts as a “hook,” and I’d love some advice on whether I should make it a larger part of my primary application.
