Hi everyone! I'd love some help making a school list. I am a rising junior, and I am hoping to apply next cycle for 2027 matriculation.

  1. AMCAs GPAs -- cGPA = 3.67, sGPA = 3.4. Of note: I have 2 Cs on my transcript, one of them is from freshman year (gen chem) and the other one is from this past semester (orgo 2... whoops). Chemistry is not one of my strengths haha. Hoping to get my cGPA up by the time I graduate -- now that I'm done with chemistry and only taking elective upper-level biology courses, I am hopeful that I can raise my cGPA and sGPA a little more 🙂
  2. April 2025 MCAT -- 519 (131/125/131/132)
  3. MA resident
  4. White female
  5. selective liberal arts college in the midwest
  6. ~300 hours of clinical volunteering, continuing with this through my senior year
  7. ~600 hours of neuroscience research, ~70 hours of computational biology research. I have a first-author poster presentation on the computational bio research. I am continuing in the neuroscience lab through my senior year, which should add another 200 hours. I am also doing research this summer!
  8. ~50 hours of shadowing (neurosurgery, neurology) and doing more this summer (obgyn)
  9. ~50 hours at food bank
  10. Lots of leadership positions on campus, I'm a resident assistant, multiple semesters of tutoring in the neuroscience department. ~1000+ hours of non-clinical paid work throughout college. I have a gap year lined up and I am hoping to gain more clinical experience then -- thinking of getting some sort of certification!
  11. n/a
  12. Studied abroad doing bio coursework ! 🙂 my summer research PI, PI on campus, and professor whose course I tutor for have all offered to write LORs for me
anyways, this is what my school list is looking like so far.

UMass
Case Western
Cleveland Clinic Lerner Institute
Boston U
OSU
U Cincinnati
Western Michigan
Tufts
Wake Forest
UPitt
Penn State
Wayne State

I would love some recommendations as I'm hoping to expand my list a little more. Should I consider applying DO?

Some schools screen for non-clinical volunteering hours, so I would recommend spending a lot of time at the food bank this summer. I don't think you need to apply to DO unless you are interested in osteopathic medicine. Good luck 🙂

You should accumulate another 100+ hours at the food bank since many schools screen at 150 hours. I suggest these schools with your stats:
UMass
Tufts
Boston University
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Albany
New York Medical College
Hofstra
Einstein (free tuition)
Mount Sinai
Rochester
Hackensack
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
Pittsburgh
Cincinnati
Ohio State
Case Western
Western Michigan
Northwestern
Washington University (in St. Louis)
TCU
USF Morsani
Miami
Wake Forest
Virginia Commonwealth
George Washington

What help are you getting from your prehealth advisors? What did you get in biochemistry? You need more service hours (food bank or other activities) than tutoring hours now that you will graduate. Consider other service orientation activities: shelter volunteer, job/tax preparation, legal support, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation.

Hi, thank you so much for your response and helpful recommendations -- I appreciate it! At my institution, the biochemistry requirement is slightly odd. It is divided across 2 courses, a biology class (half cell/molecular bio, half biochem) and a chemistry class (half orgo 2, half biochem). I got an A in the biology course and a C in the chemistry course.

I am going to look into other service-oriented activities to do this summer and next year. Thank you for those ideas!
