Hello! Would greatly appreciate feedback on school list as I am trying to cut down about 10 schools. Thanks so much in advance!

1. cGPA: 3.89, sGPA: 3.87
2. MCAT: 520 (129/128/132/131)
3. CA resident
4. ORM, white female
5. T20 public undergrad
6. Clinical experience: 1100 hours scribe + ophthalmic tech employment, 50 hours clinical volunteering syringe exchange program
7. Research: 950 basic science research (1 pub in press, 1 manuscript submitted, 2 oral pres, 1 poster)
8. Shadowing: 130 hours shadowing (mostly radiology, some primary care + ophtho surgery)
9. Nonclinical volunteering: 280 volunteering with undergrad club focused on pre-health mentorship for HS students. 130 hours volunteering at marine science center (teaching, leading tours, handling animals). 15 hours (ongoing) at harm reduction org doing street outreach
10. Other extracurriculars: 180 hours private tutor. 500 hours sorority member + philanthropy director. 300 hours leadership in educational equity club.
11. Awards/honors: Departmental honors, Panhellenic scholarship + honor society
12. Other: 2 gap years, starting research job in ophtho (2000 hours anticipated). 2 hobbies (1 related to art and one nature-y). Interested in ophtho rn and want a med school with good research support. Want to stay in CA (one can dream lol). P/F is great. Might not want to live in a rural area if I don't have to.

Welcome to the forums.

With cutting down your school list, what matters most to you when it comes to where you want to live for your preclinical years? Where did you grow up in California (UC schools often favor those who grow up in their area). Furthermore, if you've lived in California for most of your life, can you adjust to Chicago, New England, or rather rural locations? How convenient should an airport be if you are moving far away?

There are no direct flights that I can find between California and the following: Roanoke (Virginia Tech Carillion), Hershey (Penn State), Rochester NY, Rockford/Peoria (if you can't land in UIC-Chicago), Burlington (Larner Vermont), Dartmouth, New Haven (Yale), or Providence (Brown, I think I may have found one airline). That's eight. Ann Arbor is quite a bus ride from Detroit's airport, though people from California can make that work when it's not the winter (or there's heavy construction the rest of the year). Wake Forest in Winston-Salem goes through Greensboro not Charlotte... still not the most convenient flight, though WF has a satellite in Charlotte.
