  13. Chicago ties? Many family members live there and I have visited multiple times per year since I was a child.
Underlying theme of my app in general is serving the underserved community specifically where I live. I'm spending a lot of time writing to make sure my message comes across well.

6 LORs: 3 sci prof, 1 from hospital volunteering, 1 PI, 1 supervisor at EMT. No physician letter.

I am taking a gap year (just graduated) and was not premed for the first 1.5yrs of undergrad (wanted to get PhD and work in biotech, hence high research hours). Long story short, hospital volunteering swayed my opinion and eventually led me to getting an EMT license, starting my org, and committing to medicine.

Honestly, I don't have a good excuse for GPA. I was just irresponsible/careless and definitely grew a lot and learned from that time in sophomore year. Had a few Fs in freshman and sophomore year which is what really tanked the gpa. Also, I most likely won’t be writing an OIE essay so where can I address low gpa if I should at all? Majority of credits in junior/senior year were from upper level science courses.

Scared about hesitations from med schools b/c of low gpa and both parents are MDs. I would really appreciate help with MD school list b/c of low gpa/high mcat. I’m def applying to all my state schools other than that I’m a bit lost.

Please feel free to ask me any questions. Thank you all!

As a black male applicant, you should include your HBCU schools: Howard, Morehouse, Charles Drew, Meharry. You should also connect with SNMA and other non-profit mentoring organizations that support aspiring Black (male) physicians.
