Hello, I'm hoping for some school list help as a reapplicant! Unfortunately I got 1 II -> 1 WL, so the prob def lies with my application. I've added meaningful non-clinical experience working with the underserved, which I lacked before, and a lot of clinic hours as a full-time MA. Additionally, my story is targetted towards immigrant health so that may impact the schools I'm mission fit to. I'll have my stats listed below:

cGPA:3.92
MCAT: 521 (130/cars 131/130/130)

CA ORM
T10 california public undergrad

Clinical experience:
780 at time of application (between working as a med assistant and clinic volunteering and EKG technician internship)
around 2500 now (full time med assistant during gap yr)

Research
1200 at time of application with basic science neuro lab, no pubs but have an honors thesis/poster

Shadowing:
32 at time of application (internal, family)
48 now (peds added)
not a ton of shadowing or variety..

Non-clinical volunteering:
140 at time of application, interpreting and translating work
390 now, doing variety of community service events that are better targetted to the underserved, combo of food pantry, disaster relief, clothing drives, health fairs

Other activities:
played piano at senior homes, started a club that hosts health fairs for the local immigrant community at time of application
newly added during gap year: volunteering to teach english at local library for free to adult learners, mentoring some former foster youth by taking them to the gym

School list:
Last year:

  1. California university of science and medicine (Where i got the II)
  2. Kaiser permanente
  3. Stanford
  4. Uc davis - definitely taking out this year because I don't match their mission
  5. Uci
  6. Ucla
  7. Ucr - don't live in inland empire but have light ties to it?
  8. Ucsd

  12. Uni of rochester
  13. Brown
  14. Case western
  15. Uni of pittsburg

I think I applied to several pretty low yield schools which wasn't a good plan. I was thinking of adding WashU and USF, but appreciate other suggestions.

Welcome to the forums.

I don't know if "light ties" to UCR is enough. I'm sure you could try if you attended UCR for undergrad, but have you attended their information sessions? Do you strongly align with their mission and would not mind being a physician serving their communities?

You already had some feedback (i.e., no II's) from your in-state options. Your improvements should give you a better shot, but we'll see if that wakes up a couple of the UC schools. Some questions to add to your mission fit: are you fluent in Spanish? Is that the primary language you are translating for? UC Programs in Medical Education (UC PRIME) | UCOP
