Hello everyone, I am applying MD this application cycle after taking two gap years, and want to get feedback on my school list. I am a research-heavy applicant looking for a medical school that supports this, and after talking to multiple mentors, I am not applying for an MD/PhD.

  3. Residency: GA
  4. Ethnicity and Background: ORM, first-generation college grad, FAP + Pell Grant
  5. Undergrad: T5 Biomedical Engineering
  6. Clinical Experience
    1. Rehab Hospital Gym Volunteer: 30 hours
    2. CRC: 800 completed and 2400 expected
      1. Read patient charts and work with physicians for screening, conduct in-person and virtual interviews, write history and reports.
      2. Also working on a first-author publication, but it will not be submitted before AMCAS submission.
  7. Research Experience
    1. Undergrad Research: 1700 hours with one second-author pub and one conference
    2. Physician-Scientist Summer REU: 400 hours
    3. Gap Year Research: 1200 hours with one second-author pub and 1-2 more expected second-author publications. Same lab as undergrad research.
  8. Shadowing Experience
    1. Pediatric Neurology: 8 hours
    2. PICU: 16 hours
    3. Emergency Medicine: 75 hours
    4. Neurosurgery: 16 hours
    5. Neurosurgery (Expected): 100 hours

You are not ready to apply this year since you have no non clinical volunteering hours and only 30 hours of clinical volunteering. Your 800 hours as CRC appears to be mainly research. Many schools screen at 150 hours each for clinical and non clinical volunteering. In the coming year you should accumulate at least 150 hours of clinical volunteering/employment with patient contact. You should also accumulate 150+ hours of non clinical volunteering such as food bank, homeless shelter, etc.
