  1. Reapplicant - 2nd cycle
  2. cGPA and sGPA: 3.85
  3. MCAT score(s) and breakdown: 501 (126/124/125/126) > 502 (127/125/123/127) > 506 (129/124/126/127)
  4. State of residence: CO
  5. Ethnicity and/or race: Asian - Indian
  6. Undergraduate institution: CU Denver, gonna graduate with Psychology but I was Biomedical engineer for 2 years
  7. Clinical experience:
    1. 1500 hours combined from medical scribe at UCH hospital and medical assistant at neuro clinic
    2. Starting behavioral tech job with around 20-25 hours per week
  8. Research experience and productivity:
    1. 500 hours in Adolescent Emotional Development lab with data analysis with coding such as R, will have publication 1st or 2nd authorship by time I graduate (non-paid)
    2. 100-150 hours as a research assistant collaborating and writing paper with another research professor about psychology with altruistic behavior. Either 2nd or 3rd authorship, most likely 3rd pub by time I graduate (non-paid)
    3. 250 hours as work study undergrad research assistant with PCR, western blots in biochemistry stem cell lab. 1 poster and presentation at school conference with project of replication qPCR mastermix. (Paid)
  9. Shadowing experience: 15 hours at a psych clinic (At the time I did not think I needed more since I was a scribe with over 1000 hours which is basically shadowing, I also shadowed during my medical assistant job and I addressed this info on my app), but I will def get up to 50 ish hours this time around
  10. Non-clinical volunteering: Onboarding specialist at cool organization but virtual obv, Crisis text line volunteering. (I realized I had no in person volunteering, so I will be starting volunteering at this cool Denver astro program as well as project cure organization. I am for sure on the astro, but unsure about project cure since it doesn't really align with my mental health/psych narrative, feels like checking a box)
  11. Employment:
    1. 2 years as tutor
  12. Other extracurricular activities:
    1. President/Social chair of National Society of Leadership and Success
    2. Have had projects during my time as a biomedical engineer
    3. Big astrophotography passion, and even have an album that I posted in app
    4. I do option market trading for like 3ish years now, video games (not gonna include that)
  13. Relevant honors or awards: Reisher Scholar, S-Stem scholar, dean's and president's list
  14. Anything else not listed you think might be important
    1. Nothing
School List so far:
  • So far this is the list, but I need help.
  • For sure MD: Albany, Carle Illinois (I do have some engineering background and coding, and also code in my research), Creighton, EVMS, Hackensack, IU, MCW, NYMC, Oakland, quinnipac, Rosalind franklin, rush, Sidney kimmel, Illinois, umiami, Vermont, virginia commonwealth, Wake forest, wayne state, WVU, Drexel.
  • Unsure MD based on OOS friendliness numbers esp this cycle: central mich, Connecticut, Geisinger, neomed, north Dakota, Rutgers, south Carolina, south Dakota, suny downstate, Toledo, Tulane, Maryland, UA Tucson, Wright state.
  • DO: Debusk, des moines, Kansas city, marian, new York, philadelpha, touro, U new England, western university, Kirksville, Pikesville, new Mexico, vcom, Ohio

Starting a behavioral therapist job since my app is more mental health oriented. Also, not mental health oriented as in I experience mental health complications, more as in I am interested in this and so on. I could retake the MCAT, but I just do not think I can score high enough to justify taking this test a 4th time, and I am very nervous on the result if I get a lower score and backfire, which is very likely based on my previous scores

Any recommendations/suggestions are appreciated! Thanks

So your degree will be psychology. How well did you do in engineering, and why did you switch? You'll have to check with Carle about whether you really are a desirable candidate.

Otherwise the MCAT is gonna hurt. You have taken it 3x already, and some schools will average for screening.

Did you interview? Any in-person community service?

I had all A's, I switched because while it was interesting, I found more interest in the neuroscience and psych classes. Yeah, I'll have to do more research about that school.

No interviews and in-person community service I just started.

Your MCAT scores are not competitive for most MD schools. Apply broadly to DO schools and I suggest these:
DMU-COM
KCU-COM
ATSU-KCOM
MU-COM
AZCOM
CCOM
TUNCOM
WESTERN
TUCOM-CA
CUSOM
NYITCOM
PCOM
Touro-NY
NOVA
For MD schools you could try these:
Colorado
TCU
Creighton
Rush
Rosalind Franklin
Medical College Wisconsin
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
NOVA MD
Wake Forest
George Washington
Drexel
Temple
Penn State
Hackensack
New York Medical College
Albany
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Belmont (when it opens)

Awesome, thank you so much for the list!

No interviews and in-person community service I just started.
It argues for waiting a cycle. The minimum threshold for most schools is 150 hours, or 3 hours a week by the time you submit your application. Just starting will look like you are checking boxes to many schools.

I see, you do have a point. Both my astro and project cure volunteering I would say 10+ hours a week, do you think its still a bad call to apply this cycle?

This astronomy volunteering is more of a hobby than it is helping those less fortunate. The MD schools with median MCATs closer to yours will be looking for significantly more service.

If you (OP) are moving to Denver for the gap, you will find volunteering opportunities that will help you are mental health oriented and still be not clinic-adjacent. Shelter work volunteers are needed. I need more information on your role with Project Cure.

Keep in mind your MCAT average and the lack of in person community service right now really will make it challenging unless you go for DO. You might get a few MDs but you need to get more volunteering hours.

Thank you for both of your comments! Actually, I am not going to do the Project CURE role since it doesn't really fit with what I want or narrative wise either, so that is why I will be volunteering at a foodbank/shelter, and my first shift is tomorrow. This will allow me to continue getting to bond people, and this will support my connection/mental health narrative. Yes that makes sense, I will focus primarily on this volunteering activity by doing 2-3 shifts a week, but still focus on my astro volunteering as well since it is what I am passionate about and somewhat helping community.
