Hello, long time lurker, first post.

I am a non trad (29 years old) AA male URM coming from an east coast state school. I had a 3.1 coming out of undergrad but completed a 75 credit post bacc (don’t ask) with a 3.8 gpa. 513 mcat (125 cars 🙁 )

-5000 hours of research ( 1 pub 2 abstracts, a few presentations)
-2000 clinical hours at a PT clinic
-3000 clinical hours at a hospital
- interests in underserved health and health equity
- Project manager and research coordinator for four years ( cancer, orthopedic research and public health research)
-part time music producer (for someone famous that won a Grammy)
- strong LOR from professors
- personal trainer during college

I am applying this cycle. I want to stay on the east coasts (NY, PA, CONN, NJ) . What schools do you think I should apply too? What are my chances?

I suggest these schools with your stats:
All 4 SUNY's
New York Medical College
Albany
Einstein
Howard
Meharry
Morehouse
Quinnipiac
Seton Hall
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
George Washington
Georgetown
Eastern Virginia
NOVA MD
Oakland Beaumont
Rosalind Franklin
Loyola
St. Louis
Creighton
Tulane
UCLA-Drew

That 513 and extensive research will open doors, but your GPA is still below the 10th percentile at most schools. If you sciGPA is above 3.0, you still have a decent chance at MD. I recommend: all state schools, Albany, NMYC, Quinnipiac, Drexel, Temple, Jefferson, Seton Hall, Penn State, Geisinger, NOVA MD, Rosalind Franklin, Loyola, Wake, Rush, Tulane, Western Michigan, Virginia Tech, the HBMCs (Howard, etc) and East Coast DO schools.

Thanks for the advice. The problem with a lot of the schools you two have mentioned is that their missions are different from my experiences. I have extensive research which favors a lot of the top tier schools but most of the schools you mentioned don’t have that mission. Which is why I feel I am in tough predicament. Also my reason for applying to medical school is to research the efficacy of interventions for underserved populations.

The lists of schools provided are solid and give you the best chance of getting an II. However, this does not mean you can't throw in a few reach schools if your heart desires.

Research may not be in their missions but schools will still value it and your diversity as a non-trad. Good II shot at western Michigan I think - they seem to have a lot of high mcat and lower gpas than most places with that mcat.

I agree with the advice others have given in terms of applying to schools in range, that said, as a URM with a 513 MCAT and strong research background I do think you could add a couple of top tier reach schools, although I would be careful to apply to schools that are known to be friendlier towards those with lower GPAs (ie schools that do not have hard GPA screens) and schools that reward reinvention for those with a strong upward trend - your 3.8 post-bacc GPA will be looked at favorably by schools that don't screen out your cGPA. You said you want to stay on the east coast but if you consider branching out you may be able to get into a higher ranked research school. I’m a med student at Mayo Clinic in MN and think you should consider applying here and/or to the AZ campus since our admissions committee does not use a GPA screen, only an MCAT screen (which your score is above) and will consider your upward trend and extensive research favorably.

Agreed this is solid advice.OP's profile is similar to mine and I interviewed at one top 3 school in the country.
