Hey everyone! So to introduce myself, I'm a junior at a T20, non-Ivy league institution who is a GA resident, URM, and looking to put together a school list. Truth be told, I just received my MCAT score 2 days ago, so I have only really started trimming my school list in the past 48 hours.
TLDR: WARS score is 83-85
More about me:
cGPA: 3.74 (expected 3.77-3.79 by the time I submit my application this summer)
sGPA: 3.49 (expected 3.56 by the time I submit my application this summer)
Upward trend in GPA: had a 3.57 and a 3.15 after my freshman fall
MCAT: 514 (128/127/128/131)
Shadowing: 40 hours total: 20 hours between two cardiologists, 4 hours in the NICU, 8 hours in the Renal unit of a hospital, 4 hours in an emergency room, and 4 hours with an electrophysiologist
Clinical experience: 192 hours virtual and paid contact tracing for my school's COVID-19 program so far, will be ~250 hours by the end of this semester
8 hours volunteering at a Convalescent Center
I will be scribing (volunteer) starting May at a family friend's clinic (probably ~60 hours by the time I submit my application); will do this through July
Research: 724 research hours between three positions: two paid and were research in sports injuries and using statistics for sports training, respectively, and another regarding improving physicians' communication with patients. The last one will have a publication coming soon for which I won't be the primary author but will be listed as a contributor. I have 288 hours for the sports injuries, 400 hours for the sports training, and 36 hours so far for the communication one.
Other publication: I have been working on a team that is looking to improve technology skills and digital literacy among the elderly and we established a program in the last two semesters to do so in our community. We will be publishing the results of our efforts this Spring; this is counted as an official class at my school, so I'm not sure how this will be counted, but in any case, ~200 hours total here by the end of the program.
Non-clinical volunteering: I am a member of a fraternity, so most of my non-clinical service is here 🙂
20 hours mentoring at a local youth center
24 hours of meal service and delivery-related activities
20 hours planning and participating in drives for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and hurricane and community disaster relief
12 hours participating in and fundraising for one of our national partners for maternal health
35 hours on community building activities such as Habitat for Humanity and highway cleanup
Teamwork and Leadership: As I said, I'm a member of a fraternity and have served in 3 executive board positions including being head of community service
Member of two Black affinity groups on campus, one in which I was head of community service and another where I was head of networking
I played in the band at my school for two years both in football and basketball
I run a personal training business as a side-hustle that I began in 2020 (I am an NASM-certified personal trainer)
I worked a job at the gym at my school for a year and called alumni for donations for a year as well; each was low-commitment (6 hours a week for ~156 hours each)
Which schools would you all suggest? Thanks!
