So I’m a canadian student (chemical engineering bachelors and masters), and I live in Windsor so Detroit is close to home. Both my parents work in Michigan and my dad lives there so I guess you can say I’ve got a connection. My goal is Wayne state so I was just wondering what my chances were. Or if Wayne isn’t realistic if I had any other options because med school in Canada is looking like an unlikely option.

Undergrad gpa: 3.5, with last 60 credits being 3.9 + upwards trend
Masters gpa: 3.9
mcat: 520 (I’ve only written it once)

ECs (these might be a bit weak since clinical experience is frowned upon in Canada):

Shadowing : 80 hours
Volunteered as first responder : 200 hours
Life guarding/swim instructing : 2000 hours
Volunteered at hospital, cancer centre, and hospice : 250 hours total
Volunteered with Food banks and homeless : 150 hours
Camp counselling: 400 hours
Worked with kids with disabilities: 300 hours

I also teach lifeguarding, standard first aid and cpr, and airway management (so like oxygen tanks and OPAs)

I’m also published, have a good amount of research experience, have been a TA, do mock trials, been a continuous finalist in business case competitions, and have had a bunch of student leadership positions within my school community. My letters of reference are 2 from employers and 2 academic.

I don’t know if this is important but Canadian med schools usually ask for this, my hobbies: swimming, rock climbing, gym, reading, I used to be a competitive pianist and I still play casually.

Do I have a chance at Wayne state or any other MD school in the US? Thanks!!

The best advice I have is to contact any Canadian students at Wayne State or other US medical schools about upcoming application challenges. Ignoring current geopolitics, you look like a strong applicant even if many of your experience seem to be in Canada.

You are competitive for any DO schools that accept applications from internationals and could receive interviews at some MD schools also.
I suggest these MD schools:
Wayne State
Michigan State
Central Michigan
Boston University
Dartmouth
George Washington
Georgetown
Jefferson
Loma Linda (if you fit their mission)
New York Medical College
TCU
Tulane
UCLA
Colorado
Illinois
Washington University (in St.Louis)
Also apply to DO schools and I suggest these
UNECOM
AZCOM
CCOM
KCU-COM
LUCOM
MSUCOM
NSU-KPCOM
Touro-NY
WCU-COM
WESTERN
