Hi, I've graduated in Dec 2009 with Biomedical Science degree. I've entered college thinking I'm going to go to the Vet school after receiving Bachelors degree. At the end of my senior year, I've decided I am not qualified to become a vet and dropped the whole plan. I have not taken GRE yet and I got hired by a company called LG Electronics. I am satisfied and thankful for the job I've gotten but I am doing something totally unrelated to my studies. The company deals with cell phones and basically, we're a refurbishing factory.

It's been a year since I started working here and I start to wonder about the future. Do you think that it's too late for me to get back to the vet track?? Have I gone too far? I just don't want to regret in the future...

No, it's not. You'll need to do any pre-req classes your UG degree didn't include. You'll need to put together a fair bit of veterinary and animal experience. The experience-gathering will take a lot of time, unless you already have it. If you're starting at 0 hours of vet experience, you likely wouldn't be a successful candidate until applying in fall of 2012 to start 2013. It'd be *possible* to get enough experience between now and this fall (applications are due at the beginning of October), but from 0 hours it would be a really big stretch.

G'luck with the decision.

You certainly still have a shot if that's what you decide to do. Look at the ages on the "Successful Applicants" thread and you will see that many of the matriculating veterinary classes contain mature (aka older) students.

I would recommend starting to shadow at a veterinary office on your day off and volunteering at the local animal shelter. You're going to need veterinary & animal experience for a successful application. If you are enjoying those experiences, then look into taking any remaining pre-requisite classes that you need.

The VMSAR book will contain a summary of what you need to do for a successful application cycle. You can find almost all of the information online, but this book is super convenient for only $10-15.

It's never too late to try.. I bet your youger then me! 31 and this is my first app cycle......very stressfullllllllllll😱

if you could be happy with one job for the rest of your life what would it be?

Answer honestly...

If you answered "to be a vet" then work towards that- definately not too late, I graduated a year after you and I'm applying this year.

If you answered "work for LG Electronics" then you are on the right path!
