I have been busy this week trying to study for finals and figure out a way to re-vamp my schedule for next semester. I am going to Columbia next year and with a deposit of $2000 grand I wanted to make sure that my credentials were in order. Good news: they do accept physiology and histology as biology credit. Bad news: They do not accept Management Communications as English (this is the upper-level English class that you take as a Business Major at BYU). Figured I would pass this information along. If you have taken classes that are major specific I would call and make sure that you have fulfilled the school's requirements.

Normally I would take a shot at you for having a cop out major like business management, but then I saw your total science score and decided to just keep my mouth shut.

Your undergrad didn't warn you before? My undergraduate pre health website explicitly tells you to stay away from any pseudo-English course that's not listed under the official "English Major" course number.

in the real world, his cop out degree will prove to be way more useful than your science degree.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. All the schools I've been to have basically asked me if I still had to take my 2nd english class, and I just explained that M COM was the major specific one and they were fine with that. Luckily I haven't run into any schools that have had a problem with that, usually they just know that each major requires a grad-specific english course so as long as you do that one they are fine. I guess all school dont though, although I'm hoping that Columbia is more the exception rather than the rule.

Especially considering that BYU has one of the best business programs in the country.

I went to BYU and everyone there knows that any type of accounting/business/economics degree is really just an excuse for an easy road to graduation, kinda like a psychology or sociology degree. I had a lot of buddies that switched from business to science and were amazed at how much more difficult it is to get a science degree. They think back to their business classes and just laugh. Honestly, I never took a single business or accounting class so I guess I can't really state my opinion necessarily, so I'm just going off of what others that have been in both programs have told me. But I think OP's DAT scores more than prove that he/she is more than competent in the sciences.

I guess I'm one of the few people that attended BYU and didn't know about that easy degree path. My brother majored in communications at the Y, and wanted to be a dentist, too. But he struggled in science courses, and felt that they were impossible. When I look back at the biology program, I have to laugh because of how easy they were (Bio 220 with Dr. Hess???). Maybe your friends in accounting/business etc just didn't have an aptitude for science, and that's why it was difficult? Regardless of if the degree was easy to obtain or not, I am sure that the op learned valuable information that will make starting and running a practice much less of a headache.

Alright, you presented a well though out, logical case that I can agree with. I will change my stance: Psychology and Sociology are cop out degrees.

And I failed Bio 220 with Dr. Hess freshman year 😀

Even if you had passed the class, you still wouldn't have learned anything, lol!

I took Econ 101 and 102, they were both much easier than the core sciences. I also took Financial Accounting, which was more similar in difficulty to biology courses. Concepts were not nearly as challenging, but a good amount of studying and memorization were necessary. I know I only took 3 business courses and they were fairly basic, but I found the sciences to be much more difficult, or better yet, much more time consuming

Generally speaking, I think biology classes are thought of as more difficult. However, that's not always the case, and this is coming from someone who changed majors from Bioinformatics to Biomedical Engineering to Biochem to Bio. Personally, I'd rather take A&P than macroeconomics, and it would probably be more difficult for me, just because I would hate it. Sucks about your English class by the way OP.
