Hey All,
Just wondering who is planning on attending the post- bacc program at WashU this fall...
I am not sure about the prestige of the program and would like to know a little about that if any one has any first hand experience with this program.
I would like to do some research while doing post-bacc and was weighing the pros and cons of this program and Harvards...
I look forward to hearing your opinions!!!

I did the WU Post Bac Program last year. It worked out well for me because I only needed about half of my pre-med recs and I was familiar with St. Louis and I had my undergrad pre-med advisers as a resource. For students who needed a full on program and advising, however, it was not a very good fit. The program was / is very new and so they're still working out the kinks. I was initially completely misadvised on course selection and ended up paying way more for a 'day' course than I needed to because it turns out I could have taken the 'night' course. The 'day' courses are the normal undergrad courses and some are well taught, others not so much. The 'night' courses are the 'extension school' type courses and they are MUCH MUCH cheaper than the day courses. They are also ususally not as hard but they will teach you what you need to know for the MCAT.

I was accepted into the Columbia post-bac program as well but chose WU because I had advising from elsewhere and pretty much just needed the courses and so it turned out to be much cheaper. But if you're looking for a program-program with comraderie and good advising on this whole messy application process, I wouldn't recommend WU. As for prestige of the program, it is so new I dont' really think it has much prestige. They also don't really have any data on how successful their graduates are at getting into med school....

These are just some quick random thoughts. The program might have improved in the last year since I left. Feel free to ask me more specific questions!

I am planning on attending Wash U in the fall. I have been in contact with several different departments ( fin aid' course advising' etc) and have had nothing but great experiences. Everyone has been very helpful. I am looking forward to it!

Hi I've recently got accepted into the program and am considering it against a few other programs. I'm concerned about how new it is (is it 1,2,3, 5, or 10 years old?). Can anybody provide further experiences? And statistics on how many students end up going to medical school? Any linkage or affiliations with the medical school? THANK YOU!

I am in the process of applying to Washington University, and I have some basic information that might be helpful to others who are considering this post-bacc program.

1. Post-bacc students are eligible to apply for need-based scholarships that can range anywhere from $500-$2,000.

2. Post-bacc students may also be considered for federal work-study positions.

3. This past fall was the start of Wash U's fourth year as a formal post-bacc program.

4. Although the program has not produced enough alumni to gather meaningful stats about acceptance rates, "the great majority [of post-bacc students] are successful" and have been accepted to various med schools including Wash U, Saint Louis U, University of Missouri, Mount Sinai, Stony Brook, Emory, Drexel, Jefferson, Marshall U, U of Cincinnati, U of Illinois in Chicago, U of Kansas and U of Kentucky.

5. Prices for day, evening, and advanced bio classes vary quite significantly. Day: $1,575/credit, Evening: $515/credit, Adv. Bio: $730/credit.

That is all the information I have gathered so far that may be useful to others considering the program. I asked these questions during the fall of '09, so I can't guarantee that any of it will be the same in the coming months. My guess is that it won't change all that much anytime soon, if at all. Hope this helps--Good luck everyone!

Can anyone comment on the structure of this program? Is it formal? How does it compare to those at Drexel and Temple?

Also, the statistics page linked to the site says it takes 3, yes threeeee, years to complete? Is that correct?

I guess I just want to know more about it in general since their isn't much detail on the site.

Thanks!

Has anyone applied for 2013 entry? I have applied and will be going to meet with an advisor soon.
