Anyone else get accepted?

Yup...but I don't think I'll be going there.

As of now I'll be going to UMich but Columbia is still my first choice. Waiting sucks.

congrats guys,

hope to see some of you here next year!

When did you guys all interview?

Yep, this is me too. No, wait ... it seems the school has forgotten to invite me for the interview. 😀

hey everyone......i was thinking about applying to Wash U, but i didn't think i was competitive enough. i just received a letter from them inviting me to apply b/c of my Aug MCAT score.....i assume it's routine for them to recruit and i'm still not sure if it's worth it to apply. what do you think??? do they "recruit" a lot of people???? isn't it too late to apply anyhow and have a legitimate shot??

They send out a ton of those letters, I bet they just have a spreadsheet of anyone who released their MCAT score, and send a letter to anyone who got above a 35 or something.

I dont know whether its too late to apply, but dont apply just because of a letter that some Microsoft Access database decided to send you. If you really really want to goto WUSTL and StL, go for it. Otherwise, dont bother, the letter doesnt indicate anything more than that you scored well on the MCAT.

I concur. Don't waste your freakin money on those bastards. I got one of those letters in the mail a couple of months ago. It congratulated me for my "outstanding performance on the April MCAT" and told me that I "seem like the kind of talented, bright students" that attend WashU. What a load of BS. At the time I wasn't planning on applying to WashU, partly because of the location. But I thought, "What the hell! They want me to apply, so I'll apply." Freakin bastards. Took my money for the secondary and I haven't heard from them since.

Has everyone who has been accepted so far been one of those who interviewed in September?

no, i got in 11/13, interviewed in october (the 8th i believe)

i also got into WashU this past week.

for those who interviewed...what were your overall impressions of the school? of st. louis?

thanks gleevac and elias.....ill save my time and money

how were you guys notified of acceptance? mail or phonecall? or email?

Hey everyone! I was accepted on 11/13 by phone. I interviewed on 10/27. I'm not sure whether Wash U is the right school for me, but we'll see how things go...

Although WUSTL has a very aggressive marketing campaign out there, don't shut it off your list because of that. It is an amazing school and St. Louis is really not that bad (actually it's much better than a lot of other cities).

Before i interviewed WashU was in my top 5 choices. After my interview i loved it even more. I know first hand how great it is to be a WashU student 🙂.

Unless Hopkins/Harvard/UCSF come through i am pretty sure that i am going to stay here. Hopefully some of you guys will be here with me 🙂

Congrats to everyone that was accepted.

has anyone been invited for an interview recently at Wash U? When were you complete?

What does the WashU secondary cost, and can somebody tell me what the essays were about? I just received the same invitation to apply and was wondering if its worth it so late in the process. Thanks.

(long-time lurker, first-time poster) 😀

there is an essay, how are you affiliated with WashU/what previous experience you had with WashU. and, there is an optional essay (I think).
I got an interview invite there a few days ago. 🙂 and I had a 32O MCAT (but a 3.95 BCPM from WashU undergrad)

I take it that those of you who just heard were in the first bunch... ie, one of the choice 12 from each of the four regions that were presented at the adcom overall meeting. (That I remember). Does anyone remember how often the WashU Adcom will meet from now on to decide on further acceptances?

Cheers.

hi.. im interviewing at WashU soon...

I had heard that the students are super competitive, and not too happy to be there.. (from other friends that went to interviews there). Did you guys see any truth to that?

(I would think that their agressive campaigning for students with high GPA/MCATs only would make that sort of student body up...)

peace,
mmz6

I've heard the same as well, but that's definitely not the impression I got at the interview. The students seemed happy (actually, to a somewhat unnerving extent) and relaxed.

I'd be interested in hearing more on WashU's attractiveness to so many people. I'm not familiar with its strong points.

Congrats JC. I just heard back from them also! This is so exciting. Are you planning to attend WashU? If you are, please PM me! We have to get together somehow and talk about it.

I am a wash U med student, and I just wanted to comment on the "rumor" that we are competitive and unhappy. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The student body is extremely supportive of each other and couldn't care less about competing.

1) Nothing is curved, all that matters is your grade not what everyone else gets
2) First year is pass/fail which puts everyone on equal footing
3) The administration goes out of its way to make things comfortable and easy going, plus provides free tutors if you are concerned about a course
4) We actively distribute review sheets, past exams and information to help each other study.
5) Rumors about medical schools (not just wash u) tend to be propagated by applicants and not the medical students. Beware of these rumors about students hating a school or being x. y or z. Most of the time they are false or exaggerated.
6) Wash U does send out a lot of notices, mostly this is to get the name out, many students are not aware of Wash U until they start applying.

That is all for now

If you have questions pm me

Irish - the adcom meets again sometime in early December - perhaps the second week.

Got the same letter. I applied in late July, recieved a secondary and filled it out immediately. So far I haven't heard one word from them. I recieved several interview offer from other schools where I applied much later. My oppinion is that they're farming us for secondary fees, and people to reject (to increase their US news ranking). Only apply there if you are already interested, because those letters don't mean anything.

PrincetonRocks are you already set out for WashU? I thought you were applying to UCSF.

I just came back from SFO and i can say that if i was a CA resident i would not even think about going to another school.

another wash u student who decided to check back into sdn after a several month hiatus (amazing what exam week does to you!).

anyway, i felt the need to post because prior to my interview i was very concerned that wash u would be a bunch of psycho pre-meds turned med students. after the interview i felt i was maybe misguided on that frontand i continue to be amazed by how far the psycho/competitive image is from the truth. quite honestly, i couldn't imagine the group being more supportive and happy - never before have i been sent so many review sheets, or told about so many helpful websites. one kid had a handy program, and offered to make copies for anyone who gave him a blank cd. he took the time to make 100+ copies of the program. it's that sort of behavior that is far more illustrative of the cooperativity at wash u than rumors of competitive and unfriendly students.

i never thought i would enjoy med school as much as i do. i love it here, and couldn't recommend it more highly!

the secondary is CAKE.......if my memory serves me correctly, the only essay (more like paragraph) I filled out asked whether I had any experience or ties with Wash U. JulianKrane and others, please let me know if I'm forgetting anything!

Also, congrats to those who got accepted (you go Julian you)....Wash U is an amazing school. You guys must be amazing applicants. I'm still awaiting word from Wash U, maybe b/c I was complete in early Oct. JULIAN, do you think I'll get an interview!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Felipe5, I'm sure you'll get an interview. There's still time. Like I told someone else, contact the fearless leader, if you know what I mean. See if she can do something. 🙂
