According to the MSAR, WashU has a median uGPA of 3.91?? I know this is different than mean but still thats a ridiculously high uGPA to have 50% of the people above 3.91 :scared:

Like I keep saying, the WashU admins are nothing but numbers ******. They take all the robots with 45 MCATs and 4.0 GPAs who cant hold a 5 minute conversation.

They are determined to get to that #1 spot in the US News rankings, and they are riding on the back of the GPA/MCAT pony!

What their MCAT average this year, BTW? 39?

Yes. Remarkable.

Should one not even bother applying to WashU with lets say 3.5 GPA and 38+ MCAT, or even with 3.9 and 30 MCAT? They need both uGPA and MCAT high?

i interviewed with a below average gpa. the school is incredible, and i really loved it!

yeah, how about their MCAT average of 37 😱😱😱. That's more insane to me than a 3.91. Boo numbers' ***** 👎 🙁

It's more likely that they will interview you with a 3.5 and 38+ MCAT, but I would not bother with a high gpa/low mcat.

The above poster is right, WashU pretty much only cares about numbers.

IIRC, their "median" score on BS and PS is 13 (on both) and 11 on the VR.

INSANE! 😱

I think you need to have at least a 37, they can be a little forgiving when it comes to the GPA, which means it can't be lower than 3.8 . But if you have less than a 37/36, I wouldn't even bother

Yeah, anyone can get a 3.9 with enough effort. On the other hand, how many people can swing a 38 MCAT???!!!

Well, Wash U has proved that it really is the "Harvard of the Midwest." But I am not sure that Harvard has proved that it is the "Washington University of the East," since Harvard's numbers are so much lower. Wait, Harvard does not care. It is the entire human being that matters. I get it.

Haha, oh and Harvard also realizes it has the #1 spot locked down until the end of time because, well, it IS Hahr-varddd.

A friend of mine interviewed there with a 34 this year.

36/ 3.9+ here...

interviewed in Nov...dead silent since. hmmmmmm maybe my stats still aren't good enough for the almighty WashU

Interviews are nice but no chance of admission because a 34 will make Wash U look bad in US News. Statistics are everything.....or not.

wow that is crazy.

Well if I end up going to SLU i will definitely walk through their campus with a white coat and try to blend in among these creatures. Maybe put a hidden camera on my tie or something.

[english accent] here we have Giles William esquire III, he has scored a 40 on his mcat and a 4.0 undergrad gpa... notice how he when he walks he cannot see where he is going due to his nose being so far up in the air. [/english accent]

GPA is good. MCAT, unfortunately, is, well, embarassing. Sorry.

i know right...i mean what was i thinking? how could i have messed up so badly as to not score in the 99th percentile like the rest of the Wash U population?

I don't think they're entirely number ****** and the perception a high MCAT/GPA is an automatic ticket to WashU is false. Enough with the bashing that everyone is a robot at WashU - they're were all friendly and sociable when I was interviewing there.

What was your MCAT score again?

WashU interviews? I was under the impression that they just canvassed the AMCAS database for GPA/MCAT and then mailed acceptances.

What was your MCAT score again?

...and I haven't heard back for several months post-interview. I wish washu only cared about numbers 😀

Perhaps, its your 0.00 GPA? 😀

Ah WashU... my top choice and silent since I interviewed back in november. :I guess my 3.55 GPA/40 MCAT wasn't good enough for them.

lol, well, at least for the MSTP side of things, the administration mentioned that congress only understands numbers...so that is partly why they focus on applicants with high numbers. As for people being socially awkward, well...you can find that at any high tier school and for the most part, the students I met at WashU were pretty sociable.

Considering the amount of research money WashU gets and the number of nobel prize winners associated with them throughout history (more than hopkins), I hardly think their high gpa/mcat is what gets them US News rankings.

I will note that I found WashU students to be fairly sociable (though certainly less so than every other school I interviewed at except Yale, surprisingly...).

Don't they focus on academic medicine anyway?

I was offered basically the very last day of interviews and I had a 3.9+ and a 37. Brootal! I declined it partially because it was so late in the game. Median of 3.9 and 37 is rediculous.

I got a late interview there coming up. I'm above their GPA mean, but below their MCAT. I'm not expecting to hear back from them post-interview anyways.

I'm happy with my acceptance to one of my top choice schools, so it's all good.

Yes, thats the whole point! I mean, just the fact that median uGPA is 3.91!!!!!

50% of the accepted class is OVER 3.91 and 50% is OVER 37 MCAT.

== numbers' ******!!!!!

everyone i know who goes there (or has been accepted there) spend all day studying and are not very fun... (mostly asian nerds)

I want some gulaab jamun right now! yumm....lol

I'm sure there's enough people with high MCAT scores that are also well rounded, so its entirely possible that Wash U looks first at the numbers and then grabs the most well rounded ones of that batch.
And I know they don't just accept robots. Al Gore wrote my letter of recommendation in binary code and I had no life as an undergrad and I didn't get in.

im assuming that alot of these people accepted are getting acceptances from other top schools as well, in GENERALLY more desirable places. so how does washington u pull kids away from stanford, ucsf or harvard and such?? do they give out more scholarships and other sources of financial aid?????

they do have great financial aid packages, and as for getting in to a california school, well you better be in california to begin with... and yes, I don't believe in capitalizing california, nor good grammar.

I am pretty sure that is the reputation of St. Louis as a party town with crazy hot women that attracts students, at least the guys.

Unfortunately for the good guys, most of the women at WashU are taken already...those crazy hot girls don't stay single long, atleast not as long as the crazy ones (check the eyes, you know what I'm talking about.)

OH NO u didnt just call out my grammar. missy

Haha, oh and Harvard also realizes it has the #1 spot locked down until the end of time because, well, it IS Hahr-varddd.

um, harvard is always number 1 because they get the most money from the NIH for research which is a big part of the calculation in determining a school's ranking.

you guys are all haters. so what if wash u tends to look at numbers more than other schools? a high gpa/mcat shows dedication, in the very least. speaking for myself, i wouldn't have busted my *** studying for any stupid standardized test hours a day if it wasn't for medicine. i know i didn't sit around assuming that any well-rounded personality was gonna get me into a medical school instead of sacking up and studying.
