I asked Dr. Katz (who is an awesome asst. PD) about the not-filling issue and his response was this. He said their philosophy is that if they interviewed someone and did not think they would fit well there, they would not put them on their rank list, even if it meant ending up with a low number of total applicants?he said they would rather take their chances in the scramble than end up with someone they didn?t want to begin with?and this is exactly what happened. So now they are interviewing a lot more applicants than they used to, but keeping the same philosophy, ultimately hoping to have a much deeper list of applicants they want.
I spoke with a few of the residents and they all seemed happy. As far as the IM EM thing, I guess it has the chance to be more of an issue there because they are known as a strong IM program?.it is not one of these hospitals where EM is by far and away the strongest residency in the hospital?.
Personally I am not ranking them that high because it is lacking some of the extra curric stuff like flying that I want?but I am ranking them and if I ended up there, I don?t think I would be unhappy?..all this is just my .02 cents worth
