Hi,

I'm going to apply for waterloo opt for 2016 entry. I was thinking about what to do if I don't get in and how to improve my chances (aside from improving OAT score and grades). Would doing a research based Master's be beneficial? I know some medical schools value research, but I don't know about waterloo optom? Anybody have any advice?

Second of all,
I'm taking 4 of the required prerequisite courses in the winter 2015 term. Would that put me at a disadvantage in the admission process compared to a student who has completed all of the required courses by Fall 2015?

To your first question, I'd say doing a Masters probably isn't that useful, really only do a masters if you're interested in research, otherwise you could probably be doing other better things with your time.

There's no disadvantage so long as you complete as the prereqs before May 1, 2016 I believe.

Heyy guys! So I'm in third year right now and my average is 82-83% and I'm planning on taking the OAT this summer. I've shadowed two optometrists and if I do well on the OAT, do I realistically have a shot or not really? Thanks!

Also, is taking a full course load required/are students who do take a full course load at an advantage?

I think you have a good shot if you do well on your OAT. And yes every student has to take a full course load, it is one of the main requirements. It can't really be an advantage since it is a requirement for everyone.

I think they look at everything together but I'm not 100% sure.
