Hi,
I'm filling out the application for 2009 entry to Waterloo.
I'm just wondering, in terms of awards and achievements and such,
how far can you go back?
I got a lot of awards in highschool, especially grade 12,
but that was 5 years ago...

should I mention them? or would that just make me sound desperate?

thanks very much

I put my high school awards in my application... only because my awards in post-secondary were very few.

yeah same here. i think very few people recieve more awards in univ than highschool since in univ it's hard to be distinguished form everyone else who tends to be very similar in your specific programs.

anyways,
also,
1- it says: "Is there any reason why your transcript does not reflect your true ability?"
now I didn't take 5 courses a term for a few terms and they said before I would get to explain that on my application as to why I didn't.
would this be where I do it?

2-should i put down my private tutoring as paid work experience?

3-what do you put down under the EXTRACURICULAR ACTIVITIES boxes
and the OTHER boxes...could i put the rest of my volunteer stuff there since i didn't fit it all into the VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE?

For number 1.
I wouldn't say that your transcript doesn't reflect your true ability b/c of number of courses. You will be taking at least 6 courses when you get into UW Optometry. Saying that you haven't done well b/c of the heavy workload may sound like an excuse... I think illness or death in family maybe more appropriate for this particular question.

For number 2.
Private tutoring can be put under the employment section.

For number 3.
Put things like club activities, extra volunteering positions that didn't fit under the section.

And yes I did put my high school things too.
Don't worry if you can't fill all the boxes... I had some of mine empty last year...

Hope this helps and good luck with your apps!
