Hi!
I'm really glad, I just got an email from Waterloo saying
I got an interview! Which is really funny because they only
received my application just yesterday morning.
did anyone else get an interview?

and also, what does this mean?
does it mean i have a good chance?
or does it mean they interview almost all applicants?
please if someone knows stats from the years before about
how many people applied and how many got interviews,
please provide a link.

thanks!😍

Two years ago they accepted some students without interviews based on application. Last year everyone who was accepted was interviewed except one student that I know of (because they over-booked the interview slots) but that person's application was strong enough for acceptance. This year I believe they are interviewing every applicant who will be accepted.

Come down for the interview and check out the school. It's a nice little group.

I'm pretty much int eh same situation! haha!
They got my application one day adn the next I got the e-mail about an interview!
I'm wondering the asme thing about what my chances are now that i have one! i read that normally about 250 people apply and then 90 are accepted. I wonder if 250 are interviewed or if there are less interviewed which means our chances have increased? I hope so!
When is your interview? Mine is the morning of teh 29th of November. Are they all the same day with teh round table and tours and stuff?
Good luck with yours!!

thank you! good luck to you too!
yeah I'm not sure what thsi really means.
where are you from? I believe all interviews are on teh 29th because that's the day I got too.
However, I am from Vancouver, B.C., and they have external interviews. I emailed them asking for one adn they said they still don't know how many people are being interviewed in Vancouver or other provinces so they will have to wait and see if there is enough, they'll fly out here.
So,
I guess thsi means they haven't made up their mind about everyone yet...

And also, where can one find tips about a successful interview?

haha im also in the same situation where i got a reply back the next day. Not sure of everyone else but i sent my transcripts and OAT scores back in Sept so they probably had reviewed that beforehand, thus allowing them to send out invites so quickly? (i could be wrong). But yes, if anyone has interview advice for waterloo please share! 🙂
thanks

Yup, your chances have increased. Last year only approx. 180 of the approx. 250 applicants got interviews. And 90 of them were accepted. Congrats. on making it this far!

I got an interview as well! 😀
Does anyone know how much weight they place on the interview/ GPA acceptance average?

congrats to everyone!
has everyone here written their OAT?

and where is everyone from?

I'm from Vancouver , BC, and I'm writing my OAT in December.

I'm writing my OAT in december as well!
I hope i'll be seeing you all in class in 2009 😀

Anyone interviewing on a date other than the 29th?

How about students currently at Waterloo. Are their interviews also on the 29th or are current UW pre-optometry students interviewing at another time?
Has anyone scheduled an external interview? If so, when and where?
For those interviewing, how far along are you in your program? 3rd year? 4th year? Grad student?

I wrote the OAT in June. Happy to have that out of the way!

i'm writing mine in december as welll!
I'm from st. john's, newfoundland!

so happy!
they're having one of their external locations for interviews in Vancouver!

Mind if I'm nosy and ask about your GPA? I didn't think mine was too bad (3.5) and I did well on the OAT, but I got a rejection email right from the start! Looks like I'm not staying in Canada, haha. 😛

um...i dont' know
it's 89%,not sure what that is in terms of GPA.
and i am writing my OAT in december.
wierd,
i don't know why you got rejected...
that doesn't make sense
where are you from?

Any extra curriculars, volunteering, or shadowing?

I have a fair amount of activities/volunteer work/shadowing. I'm only in my third year, and my grades and OAT are slightly lower than the average stats for last year's accepted students. I didn't have super high hopes for Waterloo, it just surprised me that they were so quick with the rejection! They sent me the email several minutes after I had emailed them to make sure that my letters had arrived. Best of luck to you, though! Hopefully your interview goes well 🙂

Any extra curriculars, volunteering, or shadowing?

yup,tons.
i never did the whole volunteer at a hospital/lab bull****.
i volunteered wherever i felt like i enjoyed volunteering,
and did some unique volunteering, and went on french immersion programs, worked in teh states, volunteered at unique camps,
and some projects with clubs at my univ.

and yes i did shadow. not like 10000 hours,
but i did go take the time to go out and chat and connect.

i'm not sure though what the want.
i certainly didn't have volunteer experience that all pre-health students have... i just couldn't bear to do hwat almost every single one-dimensional person was slaving over in my undergrad classes such as becoming presidents of lame clubs, or volunteering at the hospital gift shop, or stuff liek that.
not that that's bad, but i just don't feel like anyone did those things out of PASSION.

but i hardly doubt this is what waterloo is focused on though...
afterall they didn't even have a personal essay!
just boxes to fill out your activities...
which is why i think they focus so much on GPA...
we'll see...
