I just finished my freshman year of college and finished with a 3.2 cumulative GPA. I received my first C in a literature class however, my science classes were all A's and B's. I know it's only my first year but I'm so used to having a 4.0 GPA from high school and I'm scared that I won't be a good contender for medical school.

How hard did you work this semester? Did you slack off or were you working every waking second? Give us more info so we can help

I worked about as much as I did for high school, expecting for everything to come easily but always getting my work done when it needed to be. I definitely could have put in more work.

Yeah this is college man. I know you have the potential since you had a 4.0 in high school. Work as hard as possible & pick classes wisely in terms of professors and you should be fine! Considering the average GPA for med school is a 3.7, you have time. Best of luck homie

Med schools will look at both your overall GPA and science GPA, as well as the year-to-year trend for both. Sounds like you did fine in your science classes so far. As long as you do well over the rest of your undergraduate years and finish with an upward trend, you'll be fine.

The high school to college transition varies for each person. College classes are often times more content intensive and move at a much quicker pace. Each class may also require a different approach in terms of studying, so try to find a style that works best for you early on in the semester. You should have a good idea of how well you're acquiring the material after your first exam. Thoroughly evaluate your first exam to get a better sense of how your professor tests your knowledge and use that to prepare for the rest of the exams in the class. Don't worry about what happened during your freshman year. Do well the rest of the way and you'll be fine.

You've got 3 more years to work things out, and you seem to have the important part (science classes) figured out. Just keep swimming, man, you'll make it there!
- Trend matters (bad freshman year is common)
- Science gpa matters (yours sounds fine)
- You've taken so few classes, gpa can change quickly from here
- You don't need a 4.0 for med school admissions.

Good luck from here on out!
