which school is better, and why? (not counting rank).

yes, i know there are existing threads on the matter, but they are outdated and the programs have since changed, so i want a more current opinion.

i got accepted to both schools. i was waitlisted at wayne, and was just pulled off the waitlist. i absolutely LOVE ferris state, and im currently doing my undergrad at wayne...and to be honest i am getting sick of this place. but i know the pharmacy building is pretty nice...

having said that, i already have my fall schedule at ferris state! and sent in my deposit of $500, and paid $200 for my room and board license fee. AND i have to have my decision by monday, april 25th for wayne state...AND it's a $1,000 deposit!

help!

For me I would attend Wayne State. They are the more established program with a medical school. They will have better ties to hospitals for rotations in Detroit.

For you its an easy choice because you are sick of Wayne State. Go to Ferris and enjoy the change in scenery. I moved from a big city to a small college town for my undergraduate and loved it.

I know Wayne State is a more established pharmacy school and its affiliation with Detroit Medical Center will make it easier for rotations as well as residency matching. They also have two types of rotation models you can choose. One is more clinical oriented where you have all your rotations in a hospital settings and the other one is the regular one with a mixture of hospital and retail rotations.

It all depends on your future goals, if you planning on doing retails than go with Ferris since the school you go wont likely matter at the end but personally i am going with Wayne State even though i don't have much knowledge on Ferris.

PS. True story; during my University of Michigan School of Pharmacy interview one of the clinical pharmacist (pediatric pharmacotherapy speciality if i am not mistaken) asked me if i applied to Ferris with a smirk and than asked if i would attend if i gotten accepted there. It seemed if they were disregarding Ferris State as a pharmacy school.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'd like some more opinions--perhaps someone who chose ferris state, and why? I need to make this decision by monday and right now I am still uncertain.

If you're a borderline student you may want to think twice about going to wayne. The P2 class has already lost over 20 of the 68 students they started with a year ago. They won't hesitate to make you sit out a year if you fail a class. Some say they actually have a certain number they try to fail each year and will adjust the difficulty of classes to meet that number.
If you're a good student and understand that you must study more than just the day before exams, you will likely do fine. But if you don't have the best study habits, it may take you 5 or 6 years to finish the program.

is there any truth to this still? and does ferris do this too?

I got into Ferris and Wayne but chose Wayne for a lot of reasons. I did my undergrad at Ferris State and the town of Big Rapids sucks. Its a hick town with everyone wearing camo gear daily. There's only 1 good bar and youll be stuck going there for your next couple years. The only pro to the ferris program is that youll get to go to Grand Rapids for your last 2 years. For me Wayne was an obvious choice. There's more opportunity for interning while your in school at Wayne because theres a lot more preceptors and pharmacies in southeast michigan. Big rapids has like 4 pharmacies and there's about 300 pharmacy students in the town so the internships get swooped up real quick. Wayne also has a nicer building ( ferris chose to build a new optometry building instead) and has more connections with hospitals etc.
