hello,

I am a non traditional student and Ohio resident. I went to undergrad in Michigan and I have Michigan ties. I am from a very low SES and rural family as well as being a first gen college student. My primary interest at this time is anesthesia followed by IM with an interest in critical care medicine. I understand that this might change. Also, I have worked for the Cleveland Clinic for 8 years and I would like to return for residency.I

Toledo
pro: in state tuition, low cost of living, close to Ohio and Michigan family
-good match list, matched 12 anesthesia last year
-matches to CCF consistently
-They offer urban and rural rotations, both of which interest me
-I enjoyed my interview day and I am excited about their student run free clinic
-I am a runner and the metro parks nearby have great trails
Con:
-ranked lower than Wayne
-Toledo probably not as exciting as Detroit, but I am free a town of 1700 people so I don't really care. I didn't even have a McDonald's so everything is exciting lol
-Not as big of a large/metro trauma center as Wayne
-

Wayne
pro:
-amazing rotations at DMC, Henry Ford, and likely get to experience exciting things
-more nationally recognized and more research
-larger and more diverse class size and likely more non trad friend possibilities
Con
-out of state tuition for year one
-farther from family
-probably less ability to escape into nature compared to Toledo, which I might like coming from rural Ohio

Wayne state also has a 3 yr anesthesia program, not sure if you're tracking that as a potential option if you're committed to that route. Something that non-trad/career changers might consider a pro.

When you say "out of state tuition for year one" does that mean Wayne lets you reclassify as an in-state resident for m2-m4?
