I need to make a few bucks this summer to be able to have a somewhat decent college life next year. Problem is, most of summer will be dedicated to Orgo. What can I do, premed wise ideally, to make a few bucks?

I've considered working in a hospital which is not really possible without some kind of certification which I will do for next year. I am applying/will apply for some research and internship grants which I have a slim chance of getting.

Tutor in it? No better way to learn than to teach, in my eyes.

I would just try to find a job where they will let you study when you're not busy. Receptionist, cashier at some place that doesn't get too busy, etc.

Thanks guys! I'm actually looking for a job after Orgo ends, but a receptionist at an office during Orgo sounds like a good idea.

would you want to be tutored by someone who repeatedly posts on here in a panic over his/her poor academic performance & lack of understanding of how to study effectively?

OP, don't expect miracles. As strapped as you'll be for cash, someone who has had so much stress from academic performance in spite of devoting so much time to it would be better off taking loans and not having additional obligations to interfere with a difficult class. We have all seen threads where a poster is asking how to overcome a tanked GPA & bemoaning the fact that adcoms won't give him extra credit for working so much during school. Don't let that happen to you...which your past posts suggest working would set you up for.

Was unaware of this.

Panhandle in your off hours like a boss. "Will titrate for food" if you're going the classy angle, "ninjas killed my family, need money for kung fu lessons" if you're trying to be the cheerful beggar.

Damn everyone I tutored in my undergrad career is screwed. 😀

Thanks, I'm not looking to do anything during Orgo except Orgo and like volunteer once a week. I am looking to do something in the 8 remaining weeks though. My smarts weren't why I was doing poorly academically. 🙂

If you like kids, babysitting is great. It's good money off-the-books, and you can bring homework to do after the kids fall asleep 🙂

I've known a couple of people that did overnight hotel gigs. Basically just had to sit at the front and occasionally check people in or answer a call. Otherwise all they did was do homework/study. Not sure if it would interfere with your schedule too much. Theirs they just scheduled classes where they'd still get 6-8 hours of sleep.

Honestly any part time job will suffice as long as it doesn't interfere with your studies. You can wait tables, be a receptionist, administrative assistant, get involved in some way with university faculty to build relationships for the future, etc.

Thanks for the great tips. Again I'm looking for a job during the weeks I have no Organic Chemistry, but if it is a job where it allows me to open a book most of the time, I like it.

You could look for work as an hourly research assistant. At my college, they usually make $9 - 12 an hour, which is comparable to what you would get working at the library, health and wellness center, or alumni office, but with the added bonus of learning while you work.

Since you plan to work during your period without classes I suggest you take a very active job that allows an occasional amount of downtime. That way you'll always need to be on your game and not half-ass anything + you can gain some good life experience without chilling for too long.

Speaking as a person who had two extremely laid back jobs while working as a research assistant this past summer, I feel like I gained a significant amount of experience from the research position but learned little from my other endeavors.
