My weakest section of the DAT is RC... does anyone have any advice on how to improve? I've taken Kaplan and used their method of road mapping. For RC, I got an 18 but it's only the 39th percentile, which is very very low compared to my scores for the other sections.

Dont go through the article from start to finish, that takes up too much of your time.

Read the questions first, then skim the passage until you find the the answer. Its usually word for word in the passage, so its not too hard to find. This is the method I use, not sure if anyone else would agree.

I just took topscore test 1 yesterday and got a 22 on it. It works for me.

i used the same method on the real deal and i got a 25 on the section. the thing is, i've heard people saying that they got questions on the RC section asking more about inferences and "what is the author trying to say". when i took it (april of '03), all the questions and answers were really word for word......so i dunno...you might want to ask more people who took it recently what they thought about the section.

I found the actual DAT easier than the practice paper tests. Owing to the scroll bar it was much easier/faster to skim through the reading. I scored in the low twenties on the paper based practice tests but on the actual DAT I got a 29. Then again I could have just been lucky.

Don't be fooled by TopScore. The RC section is NOT, i repeat, NOT WORD FOR WORD on the real DATs anymore. I was scoring 18-30s on Topscore on the RC part but on the real thing, i got 18. it was harder, the answers were not word for word. definitely prepare for this section. I'm going to take a Kaplan course this time to improve.
good luck!

Don't read the passage in its entirety during the exam.
look at the question, find a key word in the question and look for that key word in the passage.

passage are short and small, so skimming is the way to go.

good luck
