What is the consensus regarding Scottish-themed interview attire? Would a kilt make me stand out too much?

that would be awesome.

i mean you probably wouldn't get into med school, but just to see the face of your interviewers and co-interviewees....

i say you do it, and get some reality show cameras to follow you around 😉

Well are you scottish? Do you wear it every day?

They can't discriminate if you are scottish and that is all you own.
This is a good point. Since I am Scottish and only own kilts, this should work.

bravo.

Just a word of advice: Make sure there are undergarments 😉

You are now set for mishaps and prevention of updrafts are a bonus! 🙂

go ahead, try it and let us know what happens.

If you do wear the kilt, make sure you wear the knife. If you have no idea what i'm talking about....tsk tsk tsk

yea, i'm sure they won't "discriminate"

there are times in life when it is best to conform to standard expectations. your medical school interview is one of those times. go to jc penny's, buy a cheap suit and wear that to your interview.

I thought the whole point of the kilt was that there are no undergarments? I heard once that the guards at Edinburgh Castle put weights in the hem of the kilt in case of draft..

Why Conform I Thought Medical Schools Were Looking For Unique People??

The kilt will only be acceptable if you braid your facial hair as well . . . full on face paint might also be advised.

The military does go natural (which is why they call that "regimental") but dancers and athletes, for example, are generally expected to cover up under there. There are always a few exhibitionists who don't, though, and I've seen a few rosy cheeks on the dance floor in my time.

What I *haven't* seen is a Scott who only owns the kilt, and has no pants. If you mean you have no dress clothes other than the kilt, that I understand. Get a suit. It's worth it. Too many people have never seen a man in a kilt before in person and they'll think it's some kind of joke.

Unfortunately, capitalizing the first letter of all of your words is not unique, but annoying.

Only if ye be of the McIntosh clan

So a hey for the Highlands,
and lo for the Low!
Leave a Scot breathing
he'll strike the last blow!
And every chieftain of England,
so angrily knows,
the Thistle bows not to the Rose!

If you've got great legs, then go for it. Personally, I think kilts look hot.

Honestly, it would make you look pretty stupid. If I were on the adcom, I'd spot an "attention crusader" a mile away and make sure that some gimmick like that gets totally shot down.

Remember, when it comes down to it, the committee just has to say "yes' or "no". Wearing a kilt is probably not going to help your chances.

It would only work if you wore the kilt in the traditional manor and freeballed it.

And as long as you occasionally cross your legs like sharon stone did in basic instinct.

I think a lot of us don't own suits already.
I didn't own one until this last weekend when i went out and bought one.

I say go for it. You can suggest it's tradition for you to do so during all "special occasions". You'd certainly be remembered! Go for it. I don't really think it would hurt you at all.

They claim to want diversity. And they respect yamulka's and hajibs (spelling??), so why not a kilt?

This thread rocks.

if you get an acceptence and they you have an interview at a school that you wouldn't got to. DO IT. I would totally love to see it.
