This got me thinking the other day..I have a nice watch and was wondering if it would be inappropriate to wear it during an interview. Its not one of those huge flashy bling-bling-blinding watches you see, but its a Movado. What do you guys think? I don't wear it so often since I usually just wear a beater watch I have to class and work, but do wear it when I go out.

lol... if you have 2nd thoughts about it, just take it off for an hour for the interview...

As long as it doesn't look like Flavor Flav would wear it, I think it's fine.

How could they not accept you with this watch?

rofl! that actually made me laugh out loud

yeah i agree.

do you really need to know what time it is during the interview? (looking at your watch so often will make you look not interested during the interview)

if you think there is even slightest chance that your watch might portray you in any negative way, why bother wearing it? it's not like everyone else is wearing one.

i would suggest not wearing it during that time

No, that's a brilliant idea! It would make others constantly gawk at your watch making them appear uninterested. Wear it man!

If i have a movado watch I would definitely wear it. First, it is a sweet watch and very professional. Second, in most formal events, black tie, a classy watch should be part of your attire just as matching shoes and black socks. If you show up in an interview with it I think it would be a nice conversation starter too. How you got it? Maybe a present from grandpa?

I was going to buy a nice watch for interviews...I think it's a good idea if it is classy.

Of course I, or anyone else, wouldn't check the time every 2 minutes during an interview (or probably at all, for that matter). I just wanted to gather an idea of what people thought, would it create a negative impression?

And Wilson-I bought it myself, although it would make an awesome present for those that are into it.

It is unlikely that the interviewer will pay attention to your watch during the interview, much less make decisions based on it. Your watch should be hidden underneath the shirt cuff anyway. Does your watch have a metal band? Because strictly speaking, those are not really appropriate for formal wear.

i wore an ironman triathlon sport watch...i thought it accentuated my active lifestyle very well.

Lol, did you wear headbands and a jersey with 'nitrolegs' on it too?

I just interviewed at midwestern yesterday and wore a watch, a rolex that I received as a graduation gift and always wear. Actually no one cares if you wear a watch or not.

Interview at Midwestern? How was it? I interview there in 7 days!!!

It's no question, wear the watch! It's only going to boost your confidence.

no watch makes you look unprofessional. wear the stupid thing and just don't look at it!!

Do you really think any of your interviewers care what kind of watch you have? The vast majority of them won't have any idea what it is anyways...

I got a rolex that wont affect anything will it 😀

Are you guys going to wear a dress shirt made for boys? If not, a properly fitting dress shirt will cover your wrist and therefore your watch.

If I had a watch like a Movado, a dental school interview would def be a event to wear it to.

just a funny story. I went to the mall last week, and went to a jewelry store which carried Movado's. I wanted to try one on, but am in no position to buy one. Dreaming of being in dental school soon, I spit the "Dental Card". I told her I will be graduating dental school in 2 semesters, and am looking for a little present. So I got to try it on, its price was $2,995. WOW She wanted me to get it on the spot, and finance it, i told her i have 200000 in loans, and i dont want to finance more. I told her i'll wait 2 semesters and pay KASHHHH lol

When I applied a couple years ago, I decided to wear my watch (very professional looking). of my 5 interviews, 3 of the interviewers commented on it and one actually stopped mid-sentence to tell me how nice it is. Not too shabby for a $115 watch. Wear the movado... you never know what will get you remembered.

note: do not buy a movado watch from the jewelry section of a department store in a mall, hundreds, heck thousands cheaper at reputable online stores. when i was at macy's the sales woman even told me this

What watch did you wear?

I'm trying to decide which one to wear.

I think if you don't feel comfortable wearing it, don't wear it period. You want to feel relaxed during an interview, not constantly wondering if they noticed your nice watch and what they will think about it.

Plus no one is going to see it unless you roll your sleeves up during your interview. And I doubt the interviewer is gonna check to see if you're wearing a watch. They shouldn't be paying too close attention to what you're wearing if you're already dressed professionally. They should be paying attention to YOU as a potential dental candidate for their school.

your an idiot why would someone care about your stupid watch, maybe you should worry about your grades or about the interview

 i like people who say what everyone else is thinking.

I was actually thinking that it it's stupid not to wear a movado... how is that even a question? You're going on an interview for professional school and they are looking for someone who will represent them as such.

i went to an interview looking like a hobo and no one said anything, maybe the reverse is true? i think the guiding principle should be, dress appropriately but don't make a show. too fancy or too hobo might detract from the interview, when they should be focused solely on you. sooooo about the watch situation, if its not obnoxious or showy, go ahead, but if its very fancy i think it would be more of a liability... but thats just my opinion. in the end, be yourself, i guess.

You should be fine as long as it's not TOO "modern" or "unique" looking. Know what I mean?

What kind of watch is it? I am thinking about investing in a professional looking watch.

They might be impressed if it was Minnie or a Mickey watch.

With about 300 interviews, there's bound to be a couple people pop in with a rolex or two. BUT how many people are going to be wearing a vintage 1970's mikey mouse watch? If you really wan't to stand out of the crowd and not be a lemming, this is the way to go.

i wore a watch to my last interview just because i always have one on, but with the shirt cuff, you didnt see it at all. my advice is to wear a watch if you're worried about being late! 😀

I agree Cmills. Watches are a nice touch and can't hurt!

Some schools do pay attention to what you wear, and will even make note of it. I highly recommend being conservative in your style, the watch is fine so long as it is not flashy/gaudy. Don't look at it during the interview, as it should be covered by the cuff of a properly fitted dress shirt.
