Hello,

I am attending a lesser known university residency program. I attended a very prestigious medical school (very recognizable name). Tomorrow evening, we are having a bowling night for the entire incoming interns from all the specialties. I expect there will be at least 100 residents there.

I was thinking about wearing my favorite baseball cap, which has the name of my school on it.

Is this kosher? Or am I expected to drop all former ties to my med school and just wear the university-affiliated residency apparell now?

I dont want to go there and be thought of as pretentious or a dork.

There's no right answer. If you don't have a good feel for how things are going to work at the new program, you could avoid it this time and take a chance to see what everyone else wears. But then I tend to over-think these sorts of things.

Well, I think everybody is going to find out about it eventually so why not take the plunge? Just don't seem like a d-bag about it. "Oh this hat? Why, yes, I did attend Hahvahd. Thank you for noticing"

First impressions are everything.

Since you have the option of not wearing this particular hat, and there is some possibility, however small, that some might think it pretentious, why not skip wearing this hat on the one night you have the chance to make your first impression?

There will undoubtedly be some people who are a bit touchy about being at a "lesser known" residency program and might take your hat for being showy.

Besides, gentlemen take their hats off indoors, even at a bowling alley.😉

but what if you wanna hide your bald spot with a hat?

Hello,

just by mentioning this makes you a pretentious dork. Seriously, in my opinion wear a hat with your favorite ball team not of your alma mater in medical school so you can be thought of as cool.. Peace out nerd.

I'm at a not-very-prestigious med school. There's a guy who wears Harvard cufflinks when dressed up. Don't be that guy. (It doesn't make me think he's smarter; I just think damn, even with that name brand degree he couldn't do better than here?).

Spray on hair.

Comb overs.

Shave it all off.

Deflect their attention with your good wit and charm.

Grow facial hair, that seems to make up for the lack of head hair.

Quick transplant.

Yarmulke.

Rocking a yarmulke is always a good idea. I always go with a nice handlebar mustache and my bright orange Tennessee yarmulke when I'm trying to impress the ladies. Wit and charm are overrated.

Outstanding advice.

Perhaps I am southern enough, but I find it the PINNACLE of bad manners when I see men and women indoors wearing hats.

Take off your *d-mn* hat.

I say wear a top hat. It shows that you have class. And, who doesn't love class?

Yarmulke over top hat any day. Yarmulke screams class.

Top hat says "I love Monopoly...and I might be a pedophile."

Top hat by itself? Could be a GnR fan or a Monopoly fan.

Top hat and spats? Definitely Monopoly fan, but its classy alright. I'd be much more impressed by that attire than a baseball cap with <insert prestigious university name here>.

I can't argue with that, but remember, a yarmulke says "I'm f***ing gangster. Deal with it."

Class =

Top hat.
Monocle.
Cape.
Lorgnette.

There can be no dissent.
