So I wanted to take your advice in case this situation happens to me (I have a big feeling it is going to). Let's say I I have an interview in the first week of December at School X, which is my first choice . If I were to get accepted on December 3rd to another school, I would only have 30 days or so to accept the offer and put down the deposit. As I near the end of those 30 days, if I haven't heard from School X, can I contact them or do something to see if they're going to accept me? Or what would you guys recommend? Thanks so much.

I think this happens to a lot of people. I've thought about it a lot. There's one school I would be thrilled to receive an acceptance from on Monday, and one which I would be grateful for but definitely not as excited as after visiting I don't really want to go there.

I mean you can definitely call and let them know that your sort of waiting on them, I mean its super important to let them know they're your number one choice! You may also have to fork up the money for the other school you get accepted at just to hold your spot! I know its a lot of money, especially for certain schools (like $1000???) but at the end of the day you really want to go to dental school and cant count on getting in to another one after the 30 days.

If they are going to accept you, then they will do so in the first week I believe...

So you guys think if I haven't heard back a week after my interview to give them a call and express some interest? Is there anything else that I could do - I had heard something about a "letter of intent"?

The very worst that could happen to you is that you lose out on the first deposit. Seems like a good problem to have, imho.

I understand that, but my financial situation doesn't really permit me to lost out on $1000 if there is some way to try and avoid it. At the same time, I'm trying to find out from the other school whether or not they want to accept me or not. I'm wondering what would be the best approach to take.

I'm sure they'll address this during your interview. Adcoms are perfectly aware that December interviewees may be sitting on other acceptances. They'll let you know when you can expect to hear from them, and when/if it's appropriate to contact them.

Very good point. Thank you very much.

I have a friend who got accepted to school x, but wanted to go to school y. He called school y and let them know that he was accepted to x but really wanted to go to y. He got accepted to y a few days later.

Wow, really? Did he have a post-December interview at school Y, and was accepted December 1st at school X? How long did he wait after the interview before contacting school Y? I'd appreciate it if you could go into some more detail about this, as this is what I was planning on doing. Thanks again.
