Hey everyone,
I just did NBME12 yesterday. There was this particular question on it which I have no clue how I got right but still want some clarification on it.
The question is about a 3 year old boy with 6 month history of intermittent pain in leg and calf region at night and inability to keep up with peers in the playground. Exam shows fibular fracture and weakness of gluteal muscles. What should you do next? Options were measure ESR, serum creatine kinase, serum hydroxyproline conc., serum immunoglobulins or serum rheumatoid factor. I picked serum creatine kinase and it was right but I have no clue why. I sorta assumed the intermittent pain was growing pains, and the fibular fracture has nothing to do with it. Thought serum CK would rhabdomyolysis of some sort but I'm not sure.
