Weird SDN thread question

I see that beginning December 1, all interactions on the forums require an SSL encryption connection for proper https connection. How does this affect the explosion of threads that usually occurs right around midnight of December 1 on this forum? (Not suggesting it's going to be like an internet meltdown... but it gets really animated as the clock approaches midnight...)

I don't even know what they mean with that lol. How do I know if my connection is SSL encrypted? 😕
