I interviewed at my top choice two weeks ago. I am currently in a SMP with a conditional acceptance to the connected medical school. I received a LoR from the director of the SMP who is a notable alum from the school I interviewed with. I did not include this letter in my initial packet because I was worried about having my conditional acceptance rescinded if connected medical school knew I applied out (the board voted over the summer confirming students in SMP have the right to apply out so I am good.) I met with the director to check in and he suggested sending the letter NOW (1 week post interview.) I am worried this is an inappropriate communication with the school.

Thankful for any guidance anyone can give.

TL;DR: Can I send an additional LoR from a notable alum if I interviewed last week or is it too soon/ inappropriate?

1) By agreement, schools can only accept LOR via the AMCAS letter system.
2) if you have interviewed at the med school, your file is "closed" to new LOR. The letter wont be part of formal evaluation
3) if you try to send the letter as part of an update that you personally send in, that raises red flag.

Having said all that, if the notable alum sends a letter in your behalf to his/her alma mater, I dont think it would cause trouble

I have spoken to the admissions department at several schools about this, and several have told me that a post-interview letter of recommendation is an acceptable update (as long as it comes from the writer and not myself, of course). They are OK with receiving a new letter outside of AMCAS
