For those who are interested and remember my story (a late switch from anesthesia), I did not submit a rank list for the match, so I entered the scramble today. I did scramble for and accept a PGY1 spot -- specifically one of the prelim positions at UCLA. My emotions are sort of all over the place right now, mostly because it is just a one-year position. However, the pickings for OB/gyn this year were pretty slim, so I feel lucky.

Anyways, thank you so much to everyone who offered me advice and encouragement along the way. I hope you all get wonderful news on Thursday, and I'll be crossing my fingers that some of your first-year colleagues drop out sometime during this year. 😉

Congrats Lilycat :luck: !!! I am very happy for you! I am quite sure you will not have a problem finding a pgy2! Good Luck and enjoy LA! I lived there for 5 years and not a bad place to live!!

Congrats! That's an awesome program and you will be well prepared for a position next year. Best of luck

Did you consider one of the open categorical spots or did you head straight to the UCLA prelim -- I don't blame you, amazing program, great city! Congrats.

Congrats on the scramble! I given the attrition rate in ob/gyn and the fact that there are only a few prelim spots you will likely have some great programs to choose from next year!

All the best...

Congratulations! I am so happy for you making the decision to go for OB/Gyn. From checking out the several PGY2 positions posted on the ACOG web site, you will most likely have good opportunity for the rest of your residency. Congrats again!

Congratulations! I think it's great that you followed your heart and it looks like it worked out really well for you. Most people don't have the guts to make a hard choice like that. Good luck. Perhaps we will all meet someday at an ACOG meeting. 🙂

Congrats Lil. How did things work out for your fiance with the Tennessee job?

Awww... thank you all so much for your warm wishes! Now that the initial shock has worn off, I'm really excited. Still a little nervous/overwhelmed, but definitely excited. And yes, after endlessly tracking the CREOG clearinghouse, I feel like I will be in a good position to take advantage of the spots that come up.

Toxic Megacolon -- I pretty much only went for the UCLA position because I just didn't think the few categorical positions were a good fit (location, type of program, etc.). If I transfer in a year, I'd rather do that from a program where that is expected of me, rather than leave someone in the lurch.

StephanieUK -- My fiance actually still hasn't received final word from Tennessee. Basically, they offered the job to someone else, who has had 2 1/2 weeks to think about it, deadline to decide is this Friday. They told my fiance he is #2 in line, so if this candidate turns it down on Friday... 🙄 So, he still might get the job, and he still might take it. And then I will have to blackmail someone at the UT-Knoxville program. 😉

Good luck to you all on Thursday!!! I can't wait to see where everyone ends up! :luck:

Yes, there are always A LOT of pgy2 positions at ACOG. Don't worry, go out and celebrate.

Congrats! You got the best of both worlds with prelim spot:
1) You get experience at 2 different programs
2) If you decide Ob/Gyn was not for you after all, you can still go for Anes.

Have fun celebrating 😎
