I just wanted to find out if the DO schools in Florida ( NOVA/ LECOM) were affected by the recent hurricanes down there. I know it damaged a lot of areas and I think LECOM is in a coastal region. Is it me or is anyone starting to get scared of moving to Florida for med school. I love Florida, but hurricanes are terrifying to a Northerner like me :scared: . Maybe its just 'cause i'm a Jersey Girl. 😎

A little wind...a few palm fronds knocked down...and school canceled for two days.

Its a serious matter but we pretty much came out ok. Remember a year like this year is really...really rare.

Other than that there wasn't a whole lot of long term damage (except a little beach erosion) and things are sweet!

oh....did I mention that I studied my histology notes at the beach this last weekend? Ahhhhhhhh.....it was so nice and I have the sunburn to prove it! 🙂

this was an unusual year for florida, with all of the hurricanes.

i have heard it is only supposed be worse in coming years. something regarding warmer than usual sea temps off the coast of africa.

they are scary, no doubt, but once you have been through a few of them they aren't as bad.

Ummm these statements kinda contradict 🙂

I personally think its a one time deal...of course until like 10 or more years till the next sucky season like this

NOVA was fine as of Friday, and they didn't really get hit by this last hurricane. I didn't physically see the school on monday but I know the airport was back open on sunday and that miami beach was gorgeous yesterday. Ah, I will endure the hurricane any day if they take me down there. 🙂

LECOM-B is in fine shape...I think NSUCOM got hit pretty bad though. I hope all is cool over east. We had a couple trees down, a significant amount of rain and wind but nothing substantial. We had class the next day and everything was just fine. Like LECOM would ever cancel class..... 😎

Cheers

Yeah, LECOM will not stop for anything, even natural disasters

Actually, the hurricanes go in cycles. We are supposed to be getting more and more for the next few years, then it will level out again. This is according to Steve Jerve, the local weatherman. Take that for what it's worth-I did discuss it with the meteorology prof and he agreed. We'll see.

Pretty much the same here at NSU.

Lots of down leaves and tree branches but not a whole lot of structural damage.

They canceled 2 days of class for francis and closed the school for the weekend for Jeanne. They know here that natural disasters are not a joke.

and people say that living in california is bad because of earthquakes? im more frightened of the hurricanes....earthquakes? ha. i laugh at them.

Whatever...we in Davie got two gentle blow jobs in the past month. The risk of hurricane damage is totally worth living in South Florida.
