hey, i applied there a few months ago, and interviewed. it seems like a nice enough program; just not the right place for me. They only take 2 residents a year, and last year one of them dropped out (for family reasons) and they liked only having one resident; so they said they may just accept one from now on. i can see it getting real lonely real fast. The other thing is that i'm not interested in specializing, i'm interested in general dentistry; and at the VA you get a lot of "other" experience ( you do a lot of rotations in anesthesia, surgery, etc; stuff thats not really helpful for a general dentist)
another thing is the complete lack of didactic lectures, etc. I just felt like they work you like a dog (730-5 manadatory) and theres no lectures or anything. there is also no "supervising" dentist. The director; Dr. grady, is an awesome guy, but he has his own patients etc. if you need help with a procedure or something, you have to try to grab one of the other dentists who work there, and they each have they're own patients. at the end of the day, i just felt like they used you for cheap labor, and thats why i didnt like it. i ended up going to the university of florida AEGD in hialeah which suites me much better (however they are canceling the residency program after this year and going to an all international student program). Either way, i dont have too much info other than this, but i do have the girl who graduated from there 2 months ago number, so i can call her and ask her if it's ok to give you her number. PM if you want it. she'll definitely have a lot more info to give you. good luck
