I live in New York and I have an interview at Touro-MI in Feb. I was going to email Western and inform them that I was going to be in Californina and see if they were considering giving me an interview and if so could I schedule it the same week as my Touro interview thus limiting the cost of travel. However today I got a letter basically stating that I am on hold and my application will be re-reviewed after Jan 15th. Is it inappropriate to contact them letting them know that I will be in CA in Feb? Thanks for any advice.

No, it is not inappropriate. I wouldn't say it's a common practice, but medical schools are pretty accommodating, if they want to interview you, they will allow you to do so. Best of luck.
