Hey~~~I've been to Western University.
I will just briefly leave my impression on the school.
As some of u guys already know, it's a newly launching D-school.
Hence there are no D2's, D3's.....
When it came to talk with D-students during our interview, we had to talk with DO guys. They were nice! However, I was very upset at the reality that medical students were our temporary mentors. 😡
Just kidding!
Facility
Overally, the size of campus is small. If u are used to a big campus, u will definitely get disappointed.
However, two major buildings are now under construction, and they will be completed by Fall 2009. Based on the photograph presented by Western, those buildings look awesome! You will be able to use the newest and the latest technology and equipment. 😱
Place
It's in the underserved area in Pomona. However, u can go anywhere from LA (30~40minutes) to Las Vegas. Of course, it takes about 6hours to get to Las Vegas. Oh~ don't forget to make a hotel reservation before u go to Las Vegas. They are often full!
Curriculum
This is the most unique & innovative feature of this school. They know about it, and if you want to know more about their curriculum, u can easily obtain additional info thru their offical website. Their website is really amazing in regard with how they present their school by using several cool web tools. It's cool!
Admission
Only 64 will be selected out of approximately 300 interviewers.
They emphasize on extracurricular endeavors and leadership skills, because this new program will be challenging! Yes, they also know it's very challenging, so they are not just focused on DAT & GPA. Instead, they want a person who can willingly become their charter class member with strong motivation & leadership skill.
---> Their curriclum is also challenging! Take those courses of medical students, and also have training on medical clinic in addition to dental clinic.
Interview
As most of u guys already know, major questions were composed of thought provoking type questions. I think I did very good job during my interview. However, I was really sick due to cold, and I barely made it for the entire schedule.
I had one-on-one interview, and it lasted about 30minutes. Hew; I still can't believe how brilliantly I could answer to all those questions. Frankly, I think I rocked the interview!!!
Admission flow
They were too nice! Those staffs were really young and friendly! REALLY FRIENDLY~~~~~~REALLY!
U will have a lunch box during lunch time. Do u like veggie or beef? If u are not veggie lover, than u should pick up ur lunch box quickly and accurately. I still feel sorry that one of interviewees had no choice but had that veggie sandwich. (A few guys just had veggie ones because they are vegetarians!)
One extra comment
U will be able to listen to their one of lectures for DO students. I think it was a histology class. They were talking about bone tissues, and the prognosis of !%#$!disease depending on the degree of swelling in our bone tissues. (measured from bottom to top) Although, I read my transcript for my interview during that time. OH~ One of students in front of me did some sort of internet chat during her class. She's a really bad girl.
The second thing I remember is I saw about 10 cadavers in their anatomy class. Even though the class was not fully accessible, we could just observe what they were doing by standing at the class entrance door remote from them. Some of interviewees complained about the smell. In my case, I felt a bit depressed after I watched the way those dead people were lying on the lab table covered with a white opaque vinyl. Yes, life is so precious thing! I really want to deeply involve in the healing art~ 😡 FOR THE WORLD~~~~~~
Anyway, it was a really good second hand experience. Western's philosophy is that dentists are little different from medical doctors. Their curriculum is comprehensive & interprofessional.
Good luck guys who have interview at Western.
And, never PM me to ask more about my interview experience at Western.
At last, I guess u will like girls over there.
