Hey all,
I figured that I would ask the experienced.

Is it possible to create podcasts from Apreso? Can you listen to the sound without the picture? & Put this on a podcast?

As well- Is continuing to use my MAC a bad idea? Ought I get a PC? Are there other programs other than Apreso which need internet explorer in the osteopathic program?

People with Iphones- useful for school or not??

Thank you... a bunch

You could probably create a podcast from apreso, but it might take some work. It doesn't really matter though, audio is recorded simultaneously and separately from apreso as well, so you can just download the audio files. Unfortunately, I believe they are in .wma format, so you might need a converter or something for your iPod.

Using a mac is fine, plenty of my classmates did.

While I don't have an iphone, it will come in handy especially during rotations, for no other reason than installing epocrates on it.

Podcasts... if you mean something that you can subscribe to through itunes (or not), I don't believe so. You can watch Apreso live or get it in .m4a format (I think) with or without accompanying slides to download onto your iPod. The admin is always open to suggestions though, and I think getting a podcast set up would be great idea.

I do have an iPhone and I find it extremely useful. Right now there's an online calendar (.ics I think?) that I use constantly. And as Cyclo said, it will be extremely useful during rotations and residency.

Regarding Macs, there are TON of people in my class (2012) using Macs. I'm sitting with two right now actually! The only real disadvantage that seems to apply pretty globally is that you can't print onto the school printers with a Mac. You can easily just print it from the available school computers though, so that's not that big of a deal. When we're talking about my personal preferences, I just couldn't live without OneNote. I love having all my notes in one place! But I also know a lot of PC users that don't use OneNote, so ... it just depends on how you want to study.

Hey I heard there was going to be some changes to the curriculum and how classes were taught for Western. This has to do with the new programs opening up at the school. I'm an incoming med student and would like to know any details/thoughts about that if anyone has anything to share. Is it a good thing? Thanks.

First, thanks to everyone who answered my question👍.

And JusthO, what did you hear exactly? (curious)

well, a friend of a friend who's a current 1st year told me that with the new programs opening up, the dental, podiatry, and optometry students would share basic science lectures with the D.O students. If that's the case, it would be a huge class. But aren't there other schools that do this? So, I'm not sure if its good or bad. I guess it is part of their efforts to teach interprofessionalism, but I don't know if I support having those other students from other programs in the same class. If I had to though, I'd adjust to the idea no problem. I just wanted to know if anyone had any further information.
