So today is a bad day. I received notice from both PCO and OSU that "no decision" has been made. I have to do various things and submit to my files before they make their decisions, but I was curious if anyone else had been placed in this black hole, and what came of it?

Thanks

:luck: Hi, I recieved a letter a while back from OSU, saying that they were not rejecting me but various aspects of my file were still not submitted (at that time OAT scores, and Fall 2006 transcripts) so as of that moment i was not enough of a competetive candidate to be granted an interview. Ever since then they have not gotten back to me.

Eventhough they sent you that no decision has beed made that does not mean that they have chosen not to grant you an interview or have rejectd your application. Perhaps they just want you to do certain things, and if completed than they will grant you an interview.

I have alright OAT scores, nothing to brag about, and a pretty good gpa, but i wont have a bachelors by Fall, so thats why i think i wont be accepted, ,but than again who knows.

what kind of things did they want you to do to improve your chances, if you dont mind me asking?

in any case, good luck, and dont worry we're all pretty much in the same boat, at least those who havent heard any good news.:luck:

PCO gave me the same notice. I don't know what else I can do to improve my application. If you don't mind me asking, what is your GPA and OAT scores?

Clutzie, they wanted me to spend some time at another office, because I've only shadowed at one. However, when I interviewed, I talked to the admissions committee at length about my shadowing experience and the fact that I had already set up an internship at another office for the next semester. The committee seemed fine about it then, but I guess I was wrong.

Clovers, have you already interviewed? My GPA is a 3.26 and my OAT is AA 340, TS 330. PCO asked me to send in an essay describing my shadowing experiences, which I find odd because I also talked about it in my interview there.

I know in both situations, it could be worse because they could have not accepted me, but now I'm getting worried about all this.

Did you submit them a letter of recommendation from that same optometrist that you shadowed? A lot of people have been saying that they look at shadowing heavily, but it seems that if you spoke to them about recieving the internship than they should have taken that into consideration. Have you thought about calling them and making sure that this information is in your file? Everything else that is part of your application, the OAT and GPA meet their requirements 100%. I know that people hate to call, but i would definitely call and maybe even speak to not just the person who answers the phone, but an admissions counselor.
Good luck! and make sure that they have that letter of recommendation from the optometrist on file, that gives them a better perspective on your level of experience.:luck:

Your GPA and OAT scores are good! I dont know why they are doing this to you. I haven't received an interview yet. My stats are a little lower than yours so I should be the one worrying :scared: Please update us on what PCO decides. I wish you the best of luck!

PCO also told me to write an addendum about my optometric experience. After that I waited two weeks to hear that they still had not made a decision. Though, a week later I recieved an email saying that I had been accepted. It is very frustrating, but you just have to remember that if they were not interested then they would not even bother. Also, please do not be afraid to call. Just let them know that you are interested and be very friendly on the phone even though you are frustrated. Good Luck to you! 🙂

After my interview I was also told to write an addendum... don't worry I'm not going there... I just got accepted to ICO 🙂

I thought the students from ICO were more compatible with me then those at PCO.

Hey Insomnia23, I was just wondering if you had already taken the OATS before your interview with ICO, and if you dont mind sharing what you got and if they told u to retake it? b/c I am actually interviewing there in early January, but I am going to be taking the OATS a week after the interview, I wanted to take it before the interview but its not possible to finish studying all the material.

Thanks!

OAT Academic Average: 320
Total Science 330
Reading Comprehension: 280
General Chemistry: 340
Quantitative: 330
Physics: 330
Biology: 290
Organic Chemistry: 320

I was accepted with these scores at ICO. I have (199 semester units) a GPA of 3.3 but I'm getting a double major in Chem and Bio... recently added bio.

My number one choice school is SCCO and they asked me to retake the test. Im going to take it early jan. SCCO said my RC was too low but i should do better the next time.

I felt my interview at ICO is what got me accepted. ICO liked the fact that I was able to handle a large school load and maintain grades.*** I basically explained that I was capable of ICO school work and have the desire to become an optometrist... each of which I showed examples. (capable of opt school because of my undergrad work and have the desire because of my shadowing experience)

Congrats! and thanks for your response

They told me the same thing, right before they breaked for X-mas. So I submitted it by e-mail, Im hoping to hear from them some time before feb. But it forsure gives me some hope with what you've just said. Ive gotten accepted into UMSL, but I think I would rather go to PCO... I need to know so I can start looking for houses...

Does anyone know how long it takes for the scores to be sent out to the schools? I just wrote my exam today and the guy said it takes 3-4 weeks... That's a long time! I have my interview at PCO in 2 weeks and I wanted the scores there so they could have an idea of where I stand. Should I bring my unofficial copy to the interview?

It shouldn't take that long. From what I understand, some schools nowadays just log into some database and check/download our OAT scores (well, I know that SUNY and ICO do that). I asked them to check right around two weeks later, and it was already available for them to check. A lady from SUNY also told me that I could fax or scan & email a copy of my score report that the testing center gave to me. I'm sure they will verify the results, but doing so might let them review your file a little bit earlier. You should call PCO and see if they have received your score yet (well, call around 2 weeks later). I would also suggest bringing your score report as well, just in case you can't get a hold of them or they haven't received it yet.

To get into OSU, you must go shadow another optometrist then send in a paper about your experience. Just do it, and write a decent 2 page essay about your experience and if it reinforced your desire to become an optometrist. After my interview, I shadowed an optometrist I had never shadowed before, wrote an essay, sent it in, and they accepted me a couple months later when my OAT scores also came in. I strongly believe sending in the letter about shadowing helped me get into OSU.

I've sent in my essays to both PCO and OSU, and I'm just waiting on a response now. I visited SCO on Friday and had a great time. I thought Memphis would be a gangland, but it was so much better than I expected. Anyway, the decide on Monday, so wish me luck.
